Up 3 points from the last poll. Keep in mind he is only now starting to campaign so the 5% is likely just from people who heard about him through the media. Very early, and a lot of undecideds. We'll see how he does once his name recognition builds.

He is virtually tied with Dodd for the general election.

These numbers don't mean all that much at this point, IMO. First he needs to court and persuade as many of the ~1600 state GOP delegates as possible prior to the convention in May. He'll need 15% there just to get on the ballot. It is all about speaking to the Republican Town Committees, which he has been doing.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think that Linda mcmahon mostly takes votes from simmons? Maybe it's good that she's in, they might split the vote, making it easier for schiff to win. But it's probably too early to say.

Good that he's moved up into the pack - even with Caliguri. Foley hasn't gotten all that much from his TV, probably because McMahon is sucking all the air out of the room with her spending.

At 17%, McMahon has made some moves, but probably will not wear all that well with primary voters.

Agreed that Schiff needs to put in the time with the Republican Town Committees to secure a place on the ballot. That is critical for his viability.

Since getting ahead of the curve is no longer a strategic option, Schiff needs to keep working hard, and wait for his opportunity to move.

The big story out of this is that Simmons is no longer inevitable. He was at 55% not long ago, and has been cut in half. That opens up a whole host of scenarios that really weren't on the table before.

Any way you slice it -- it's meaningful progress.

You would be correct. Mostly because Simmons had such a huge percentage. When someone has that much of the pie, it is hard to not take some of it away.

Anyone think that it's funny how Linda McMahon has spent over $2 million (likely around $3 million now) and only has 17% of the vote while Schiff has spent hardly anything and is up to 5%?

Yes, but that would be irrelevant if he doesn't get the nomination. I'm sure that she'll cashflow her investment in this campaign.

What's the chance of Peter mailing every house hold in Conneticut his latest book? I imagine that will get some great results in polling.

Every registered Republican would be a better choice - more cost-effective. Thinking that the book costs like 30$ or something... It would eat away most of his campaign money. What makes you think the people actually read the books, anyway?

Hate to be the downer here but if Schiff was taking this as serious as Rand he would be up a lot more. Let us hope he gets on the ball and starts some serious campaigning in Conn.

What makes you think he's not taking this seriously?

Announcing a senatorial campaign pretty much shows how serious one is. Peter will have to probably give up his brokerage licenses if he became senator. Do you not think that is a serious implication?

Do you notice the difference in the Rand a Schiff campaigns? I see no energy coming out of the on the ground schiff campaign. Rand has gone from single digits to the leader in this time.

I agree. A DVD would be cheaper make and mail. And people would be more likely to watch it.

lol. Nothing. After posting I immediatly realized the scope of such an idea would be way too large, but I figured they'd at least read the cover of the book. IMO the biggest thing that doesn't get someone elected is that people really just don't have a clue who a person is.

a dvd would be better.....one which includes all those clips from 2006 and 2007 of economists laughing at his predictions

This actually quite encouraging. I think Linda McMahon has peaked and if she's only at 17% while Simmons is at 28% this leaves plenty of room for Peter to rise up in the same fashion Rand Paul did.

Somebody mentioned that Rand's primary is in May and I didn't realize this. Rand's campaign has gotten much more attention than Peter's from Ron Paul even and I imagine this will sway as soon as Rand wins the primary.

It's imperative that we don't just get ONE of these two fine men elected to the senate but BOTH Of them.
