"Economics, the Social Order, and the Ron Paul Revolution" By Jorge Besada

Hi,

I am one of the many libertarians/RP-supporters looking for ways to spread a better understanding of economics and pushing our intellectual revolution. I have recently published "Economics, the Social Order, and the Ron Paul Revolution" and I'm beginning to get the word out.

The amazon.com product details page has a long post about the book where one can learn more about it.

Here is a 10 minute video that introduces the book

Here is a 40 minute introduction to Austrian Economics that focuses on the special roles that competition, the interest rate, and savings play in society, as well as the inherent inefficiencies in government and the damage caused by government regulations.

Whenever appropriate I've tried to include key quotes from the real intellectuals like Carl Menger(while discussing the evolution of money and social institutions), Mises and Hayek(while discussing the business cycle), and Hayek(in an entire chapter devoted to the evolution of laws/morals/religion, as well as our ignorant road to serfdom/socialism).

There is a brief 10 page chapter that uses economic arguments to counter the usual envirocommie ideas that provide yet another misguided attack on liberty and prosperity.

The final chapter titled "The Ron Paul Revolution" is mostly a discussion on current issues like our foreign policy, war on terror, disastrous military spending and more. Whenever appropriate I try to mention how our sort of tribal human nature and economic ignorance gets in the way of good decisions.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like you've taken what may very well be an excellent book on libertarian ideas, added a little information about the rEVOLution, and used that to promote the book to a huge market.

Sorry if this sounds harsh, but after reading the Amazon info, the cover of the book rubs me the wrong way. This is not primarily a book about the Ron Paul Revolution, but the cover sure makes it appear that's the case.

This strikes me as, to put it politely, opportunistic marketing. Too bad, I'd probably be interested in a copy if the book was promoted for what it is, instead of trying to ride the RPR coattails.

FreeTraveler,

Thanks for bringing this up. You are right about your statement above. That is precisely what I am trying to do. I am trying to spread the ideas that have grown out of "Austrian School" thinkers to as many people as possible, and I believe that the Ron Paul Revolution contains the audience that is most open and inadvertently thirsty for such ideas.

I think that anyone who reads the book's description will easily realize that the book is more about "Economics, and the Social Order", than it is about the "Ron Paul Revolution". Besides, the RPR is an outgrowth of everything that I discuss in the book.

Your comment has made me realize that perhaps I should have titled a few of the sections differently to make it more obvious that the book contains more than a "little information about the rEVOLution", because it certainly does. Perhaps in a future revision if I ever get to it. Thanks again for your thoughts.

"The flowering of human society depends on two factors: the intellectual power of outstanding men to conceive sound social and economic theories, and the ability of these or other men to make these ideologies palatable to the majority" --- Mises

"Americans need a better understanding of Austrian economics" --- Ron Paul

I'm hoping you got permission to use the r3VOlution logo, instead of grabbing it off of Google Images.

hey, i'm just impressed you wrote a book about econ.

It sounds like you just re iterated the ideas of Austrian economics and packaged it with up to date examples. As long as it brings in new people to the ideas way to go. I'll give you 3.99$ for a copy.

I hope you are publishing this in Spanish. It seems that the prevailing mindset in Latin America reflects little understanding of the economic principles you articulate in your videos.

It would be a boon for the international freedom movement as well as America's Ron Paul Revolution.
