My question:

Tell me one thing the federal reserve can do that the government can't. The government can do everything the federal reserve does without paying interest on these hundreds of billions of dollars in loans.

This persons arguement:

1. You don't want politicians running a short-term goal for a long-term economy.

2. They don't pay interest, all of the interest, less overhead, is refunded to the government. That overhead would be incurred whether the Fed or the Government performed the functions.

Can someone help be prepare a response?
