Need programmer able to code new kind of forum

Would the 24/7/365 convention have a Roberts tutorial or some way to teach us? We got hammered by the rules and not recognizing the abuses in time at the real world conventions. It will only get worse next time. As a group, we really need to know Roberts rules better than the party regulars so we can call them on their crap and sniff out their tricks.

When I say "Modified Robert's Rules" it's not in the way of a hurdle to overcome, but rather an orderly way of going about proposing, voting, and amending. You obviously won't have to worry online about two people speaking at the same time, and I think that's the class of RoR that has most people confused.

Rather, RoR would be guidance for us to determine keeping the polls open for certain votes one day, or 7 days; and how to determine the numbers for a quorum. Also, when the decision is actually made to update the wiki floor, and to see that it actually gets done (preferably with some goodly automation here. Maybe in-discussion gets tagged "not-publish" and voted/passed gets tagged "publish" for instance)

In fact, I'd say that RoR would in the best case, be guidance for the programming logic of the forum. I have been trying to stress 'Modified' RoR, because it wouldn't have much to do with an active chair and being recognized by that chair in order to speak. The delegate would be 'recognized' by the chair upon simply logging in.

But absolutely we can have resources for becoming masters of RoR in person. Maybe even link to some university-level courses in parliamentary procedure and help host parliamentarianism conferences.

The wiki idea is interesting ... if i were using a forum, I would use permission groups to control who can edit what thread in what forum and simply allow the right groups the ability to move a thread to the next area in the process. Maybe use something like the thread prefixes to help prevent 100 subforums.

Maybe set up a 'dewey decimal-like' system of thread prefixes for a SQL database propigating subforums, so that subforums of threaded messages are automatically created/destroyed as the heirarchy 'adjusts' the prefixes.

Oh, and BTW I found my mockup...

I love this platform idea. (implement NATION WIDE)

I think the hardest part would be the security of keeping it within congressional district boundries.

You will have to have in everyone's profile their state and voting districts to limit threads. I'm not sure how you would make sure they were actually in the district which they say they are. Then again this may not matter except for the higher levels.

You could actually vote on who is in a higher level by those in a lower level.... With any and all access to the lowest level.... Just like conventions.

TO PROGRAMMER: You looking at using PHP and MYSQL? If you make it open source, I think we can get a really good product.

Sorry I haven't responded on this. I have been working on my free time for the past week or so. I think by this weekend I will be able to start getting something together. But the more information you can post here the better.

easy, the people implimenting this will be THE GOP (I mean, OUR C4L guys in the GOP District Chairs doing it). People can register by their voter registration number, or just their ID which is linkable to their voter information records. The GOP has access to who is a registered Republican. ;-)

Hi,

I'd probably help you with your coding project. I've done other work for various Ron Paul projects.

Greg.

Any work in this project? I will be elected NC 2nd District GOP Chairman on April 25th 2009, and am now building up my support in all 10 counties in my district. I do want to take this concept nationwide, but it has to start somewhere.

I just found this thread and it sounds like a great idea Gunny. I had the same idea myself but you definitely thought of it way before I did. I'd be glad to help out and toss some ideas around. I'm relatively proficient with PHP and databases in general. Have you started a page on SourceForge? That seems like the logical place to start if you want it to be developed openly.

Gunny, if the district chair gig works out then try to line up a room/meeting at the NC convention. Get people together to brainstorm and plan.

I am 1st Vice GOP chair of my county now, I took a known win at county over a contest at District. It will be more profitable long term towards our goals I think.

I have a lot , well most of this in ink on pads of grid paper. I know the logic of it I just don't code.

I think building a 3 house grasroots power portal and attracting users, by making officers responsive, is the way to go.

very interesting. I never saw this thread before. Let me see if I understand the goal here.

We are basically talking about structured online collaboration with embedded hierarchy of users. This is a closed looped system that is a perpetual cycle of modifying core governing documents based on the Robert Rules.

What needs to be done is some modeling. Let me ponder over this and see if I can come up with anything actionable on the development front.
