Need Help Fighting a BEARCAT - from Facebook Ad Promoter/Activists

Hand delivered the books to 14 of the 15 councilors/mayor. Heading up again soon to knock out some precincts...

Pressing On!

Patton: Now there's another thing I want you to remember. I don't want to get any messages saying that "we are holding our position." We're not holding anything. Let the Hun do that. We are advancing constantly and we're not interested in holding onto anything except the enemy. We're going to hold onto him by the nose and we're going to kick him in the ass. We're going to kick the hell out of him all the time and we're going to go through him like crap through a goose!

Why so little coverage?

Next thing you can just disregard (I am just "thinking aloud"...well not aloud since i am typing...so it is "thinking atype"? I dont know. English is confusing):

During Rons campaign I noticed this tendency to be disorganized do things the hard way. If goal is to inform people in certain area dont YAL or C4L or xy tea party or some other organization have contact info of local news, web sites, blogs that they can send your press release to? If you write few articles for them and attach them to occasional press release there is a good chance that they will publish something if not entire articles you sent them.

I am from Europe and here any half decent NGO got database of media contacts that they use whenever they do anything.

We got quite a bit of press from our first release, and have another going out tomorrow...

"We were glad to see the Free Staters protest in Concord last week. Holding government officials accountable for misuses of power and authority cannot be done at the voting booth alone. Sometimes public attention has to be focused in other ways. If only more people paid closer attention to what their local government officials were doing in their name. If more people attended government meetings, reviewed government documents and otherwise kept an eye on their public servants, the need for protests would be diminished as the extra scrutiny would reduce bad behavior."

"I am not anti-police, and I recognize the concerns surrounding the growing threats of violence related to drug use, gangs and terrorism, but I am concerned about what appears to be a growing gulf between the men and women in uniform (military and police ) and the civilian population. It seems we have gotten away from the true notion of a citizen-soldier or the beat cop who was integral to the neighborhood and moved toward a much more impersonal model that invites an us-vs.-them mentality."

More debt, please!

"Debt is the drug, Wall St. Banksters are the dealers, and politicians are the addicts."

He didn't sign the petition? ;)

lol :D

It was classic. He opened the door, I immediately launched into the ol', "Sorry for disturbing you at home but we are really concerned about this..." By then he had focused on the big picture of the [tank] we have on the back of the clipboards... the guys veins started popping and he started growling. "Get off my land... get off my land..." and then SLAMMED the door... In all my years of door knocking I had never heard such a slam... I wonder that things didn't fall off the walls... classic (and the neighbors signed :) )

Even better, yesterday I hit the door of an ex-wife of an abuser, who was a SWAT commander... She was GLAD to sign. Then, as she was signing I went into my spiel about personally delivering the Balko books, and how her rep mentioned she was hoping to hear from people in her ward... She interrupted me and asked, "Is she really thinking of voting for this?" I said they are all under tremendous pressure etc. and mentioned the list of phone numbers on our handout... She said, "Oh don't worry... we're friends..." This is a vote we had little hope for...

The vote's tomorrow. Not overly hopeful for a win, but will push til th last sec and we may just pull it off. We've definitely made the greater issues at stake the talk of the town...

A small team of us collected over 1500 sigs in a couple weeks (Was so easy it was ridiculous. Yesterday, I had people calling down from their inaccessible second floor porchs, "Hey is that the BEARCAT petition? Hold on, let me get the wife and we'll be right down.") We could've had thousands with the manpower...

Onward!

Hopefully all that hard work will pay off at the vote. Sounds like it has been a good educational campaign either way!

Those people are awesome. 2 of the top 4 signature gathers, from what I understand, aren't even related to FSP or Occupy NH. They are just awesome liberty activists! How cool!

From the latest Union Leader article.

Ward 8 Councilor Dick Patten said he’s heard from close to 100 of his constituents, most of whom oppose accepting the grant. But he said most of them didn’t realize it isn’t just for the city of Concord, but for the Central New Hampshire Special Operations Unit. The unit consists of nearly 20 communities, plus the Merrimack County Sheriff’s Office and Plymouth State University.
Patten said: “Why aren’t they coming to the plate, the other communities?” Patten is also concerned about the cost. While it may be a grant, he said: “The taxpayers are still paying for it.” He said he spent many years as a police dispatcher and can appreciate the value of protection, but he also needs to heed the wishes of the people who elected him.

At large Councilor Dan St. Hilaire, who suggested tabling the issue at the August meeting, said Friday: “I haven’t made a decision at this point.”

He’s found in speaking to constituents that the majority thought the vehicle was just for Concord and said he’s seen some shifts in opinion “when they realize there are a lot of communities.”

He said some people are still hesitant, fearing “the federal government is pushing it on us.”

Keith Nyhan, who represents Ward 7 on the city’s South Side, said he received a book about the militarization of police from BearCat opponents. “I don’t buy into the conspiracy theory,” he said.

He, too, said that many people argue Concord has its own armored vehicle and there are two others in the area: New Hampshire State Police have one based in Concord and Manchester has one just down Interstate 93. But Nyhan said the Concord Peacekeeper is 30 years old and the last time it was needed, he said: “It had to be towed.”

Nyhan said he is concerned about taxpayer money, but he is also supportive of the police department.

“It should be an interesting discussion,” he said.

How rude! A bunch of people signed the older online petition that lived inside the 20 town area but outside of Concord. The City Council basically said we don't care to hear from people from outside of Concord, even if they live near Concord, we only care about people in Concord. And now they are saying the opposite, when they know the only reason they are no longer hearing from people in those towns is because they said they don't care what those people think.
