What ever happened to having good clean fun? Next they'll be arresting them for stepping off the sidewalks on campus!

GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Authorities at a North Carolina college say a huge snowball fight got out of control, forcing campus police to use pepper spray on some students to contain the rowdy crowd.

Police were called to a dormitory at East Carolina University three times Tuesday as hundreds of students pelted each other with snow, The Daily Reflector of Greenville reported. The college is in a part of the state which doesn't get snow often, but a rare storm dropped several inches on campus that day.

Police said some students were getting too aggressive and an officer used pepper spray on a group that rushed officers trying to make an arrest.

Junior Brandon Davis said "it all started in good nature, but then people were throwing them as hard as they could at each other." Junior Matt Lunchick said an officer chased and arrested a student after being hit in the back with a snowball.

People were throwing snowballs at each other 'as hard as they could'? Oh, the horror!! Thank God authority figures were there to deterimine exactly how hard you have to throw snow at someone to become a criminal.

Throw snow at a cop--get maced. Yeah, that's proportionate use of force. Well, cops to play to win. And it sounds like they did.

They need to teach a sense of humor in the police academies.

I think they were packing the snowballs with rocks and ice and hitting peeps in the face etc.

I wonder if that's true. Hell, if it was lobbing rocks, why do they call it a snowball fight? Hiding the rock in a snowball doesn't make it a snowball fight any more than hitting someone with a nightstick in a pillow is a pillow fight...

But it would be nice to think that the campus cops wouldn't step in unless this were happening. Even if someone did hit a cop in the back...

Next thing you know you won't be allowed to operate a sled without a driver's license!

I also heard that someone hit one of the officers in the back with a snowball lmao There probably is a video on youtube. Haven't checked yet.

If that's true (and only if it's true) then I don't really blame the cops. If I threw a rock at a cop I would expect to be subdued. Thank God it ended with something relatively harmless like pepper spray and some rookie didn't pull his gun out and start shooting.

If our founders had this type of rationality, the Boston Massacre could have been avoided. If only the colonists had shown restraint. Gag!

1. Throwing snowballs less than as hard as you can is not a "snowball fight." It is "playing around in the snow like little girls."

2. Arrest any kid on any campus and see if the others don't crowd around. I'd need a lot more detail before believing they "rushed" the cop.

3. I notice it only "went too far" - and someone had to be arrested - when the cop gets hit with a snowball. "Waaaaaaaahh!! Those other kids can take it, but I've got pepper spray!!"
