Nancy Reagan, Former First Lady, Dies 94

The way I look at it, if there was a thread for Adolph Hitler's death, would such a sentiment of don't speak ill of the dead be expressed?

Of course, I'm not comparing Nancy Reagan to Hitler, but the fact that most people would argue that a discussion about Hitler could not be limited to a respectful discussion of the positive aspects of his life shows that our legacies follow us to our graves and beyond.

There is something to not speaking ill of the dead that should equally apply to not speaking ill of the living as well, but living or dead, speaking should always involve the truth whether good or bad.

Respect is key as well. There is a part of me that wants to tell Tod that the F-word is inapropriate, however if Glenn Beck died, I could not spare a number of 4 letter words for that scoundrel!

Well, I've noticed that in life what goes around comes around. Maybe you won't be spared that when you are dying. I would like to think that when the time comes for me to go, people will remember me for the kindness I said and did. You have had some hard times recently. It seems the good wishes of people on this board have supported you a bit in all that.

Sometimes it is best to keep the vulgarity to oneself and not vomit it all over people who want to stop for a moment and think a kind thought.

I have lost and buried friends and family,, and seen enemies die as well,,

Dead enemies are rather nice in the whole scheme of things.

That one was no friend. will not be missed by me,, and won't be applauded out of some PC phraseology.

Human beings typically can't handle their drug problems. Then the state steps in. Who do you blame? Probably the assholes who ruined a good thing.

If we had people who could actually handle their habit, the general population could tell the authorities to piss off. I'm generally live and let live, but I completely understand how the drug war started. You had mothers burying their 16 and 17 year old kids at an alarming rate. Most people want FreeDUMB as opposed to Freedom. Freedom entails responsibility, as opposed to robbing your neighbor's house to pay for your habit.

No one asked you to applaud her. An option though is to keep your mouth shut. The woman just died.

Keep it to yourself, then. It is not necessary to run threads right off the rails with nastiness.

Evil is permitted to exist when good men do nothing.

Make no mistake, Nancy Reagan was evil through and through.

As I said earlier the lives ruined by her use of the bully pulpit are astronomical in number.

From almost poignant headlines this am : Wall Street Journal "High-Profile First Lady" and Denver Post "Backstage Advisor" -

the situation was created to set up Bill Clinton's wife

What you say about people says more about you than it does about the former First Lady. Nobody's life is ruined by words. People ruin their own lives by what they do. I really wish you would stop projecting your bitterness on every thread.

What is it that you think you are really "doing" by insulting a dead woman on a little internet forum?

well I certainly don't want evil applauded..

But perhaps we should start having nice supportive threads of other human monsters.

Praiseful eulogies for Marx and Hitler Mao and others. I have no use for such.

The acceptance of her positions, even tacitly, speaks volumes.

I call for the evisceration of prosecutors who enforce the programs she was instrumental in implementing any time they're mentioned.

"Insults" and "bitterness"? You bet your ass! There's no single person alive or dead who has done more to curtail freedom and liberty than Nancy Reagan. Just because she did it in a pleasing voice carrying a Bible is no reason to celebrate her life or mourn her death. This woman put on a good show and there are countless families who have been ruined because of it.

Instead of sniveling about reading the truth maybe the two of you should look inward as to what type of person you would mourn, and to whom such atrocities as she promoted should be accredited to.......

She just died, pcosmar. You spewing your hatred isn't doing anything, but making this forum look like it's filled with a bunch of nasty people.

Oh, get over yourself. I hate the War on Drugs as much as you do. But, her deal was the Just say No, bs. It was the Congress critters who did the war on drugs thing.

You're just pissed off because I called you out on your quote. lol. Don't you figure that Edmund Burke was talking about someone who got off their ass and stood up to something, rather than just spewing vomit on a little internet forum after a beloved President's wife dies?

"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing"

I find that is a rather consistent prop for those destroying freedom.

Prohibition was created by such,, and the entire Police State.

As a Christian Believer it disgusts me. But as a Christian Believer I am not going to call evil anything but what it was.

She sought the Stars and the Spirits,, and used that to mislead a mindless man. By her own admission,, and the record of history.

Good riddance.

Oh, get over yourself. I hate the War on Drugs as much as you do.

You don't hate the war on drugs as much as I do.
I hate the war on drugs so much, that I'm gonna find out where she's buried and go hand-deliver flowers to her grave.
There's no better way to hate the war on drugs than to respect its architect.

I've had my disagreements with her - mostly on advocating for government spending on stem cell research and gun control - but I think some decorum is in order.

Like most of us, she was a flawed human being. She tried to do what she thought was right, but didn't always understand the full consequences.

The "Just Say No" PR ad campaign, from my point of view, was actually one of the least of my governmental concerns. I don't really have a problem if a government tries to encourage the citizenry to shun certain harmful activities. Sure, it costs some money, but it's peanuts in the larger scale of things. It's when they cross the line and try to force us to do things. That's when things get real expensive and rights get violated.

In any case, I admire the love that she shared with her husband. That told me more about her than her public policy issues. RIP.
