FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – AUGUST 3, 2013

NANCY MACE, FIRST FEMALE GRADUATE OF THE CITADEL, SMALL BUSINESS OWNER, WILL SEEK GOP NOMINATION FOR U.S. SENATE IN SOUTH CAROLINA

Mace says, “We cannot change Washington unless we change who we send to Washington.”

August 3, 2013 – Goose Creek, S.C. – Nancy Mace announced her candidacy for the U.S. Senate today in Goose Creek, South Carolina. Mace is a resident of Charleston and attended The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina, where she was the school’s first female graduate from its Corps of Cadets in 1999. Mace earned a masters degree in mass communication from The University of Georgia. She currently owns and operates a public relations firm.

Mace said, “I grew up during the Reagan years. I believe our fortieth president understood what being an American was all about. He was proud, resolute, and he was an eternal optimist. Our friends knew he would be steadfast and our enemies respected him. President Reagan helped regain our national pride, but he also left us with a powerful warning. He said, ’Freedom is never more than a generation away from extinction.’ He said ‘we must fight for it, protect it, and defend it.’ I think those words ring true now more than ever.”

Nancy Mace spoke to the Berkeley County GOP breakfast this morning about why she decided to run for office.

“It’s simple, really. I believe this government is out of touch. Washington thinks it knows better than the people. The federal government has worked its way into nearly every corner of our lives, trying to solve every problem for us. And yet, we are still not better off for it.”

“Running for political office was not my focus growing up. However, in the last decade or so, our government has taken a significant turn for the worse. Americans are waking up to the fact that our freedoms are being threatened. There are powerful forces in Washington that consider individual liberty passé and the Constitution dead letter. I believe our state desperately needs new leadership—someone who truly understands the challenges before us and what’s at stake and is willing to fight for the principles that make America great.”

Mace also spoke about her family, “I was raised in a home where I learned about sacrifice and service. I understood from a very young age that you must be willing to work hard in order to succeed, that you must fight for what you believe in.”

Mace added, “We cannot change Washington unless we change who we send to Washington.”

bump (some people bumped up an old thread regarding Mace, pushing this one off the top position in this subforum)

Her company used to design websites for "the ok one", so I guess she's going up against Graham.

I hope you're right. Losing demint was bad enough, but if we could get rid of graham it would more than make up for it. It's too soon to tell with the other guy but in my experience black conservatives often turn out to be the best, eg Clarence Thomas.

There's a great black conservative running in UT-4, Mia Love. She is a fan of Ron Paul and Bastiat and suffered a narrow defeat when she ran in the same district in 2012.

This was just e-mailed to me by Megan:

Earlier tonight at the Young Americans for Liberty National Convention Dr. Ron Paul was asked about a primary challenge to South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham. To clarify, no endorsement of any candidate has been made by Dr. Paul in this race.

"It is my understanding that there are three good friends and outstanding candidates who are considering challenging Senator Graham," said Dr. Ron Paul. "My staff and I are looking into the race and I look forward to endorsing one of the candidates at the appropiate time."

Thank You,

Megan Stiles
Spokeswoman for Ron Paul
