“I undertook the daunting challenge of a write-in campaign with the urging and support of many local Republican leaders because I believed that for Republicans to hold this district, we needed a credible candidate with a conservative record. I do not regret shouldering this challenge for the benefit of my party and I would gladly do it again. Our party grows stronger when we are given the benefit of debating our differences and I believe we will be stronger in November for this undertaking.

Over the course of this whirlwind campaign I have been reminded of how strong our values are in Southeast Michigan. We deserve so much more than what we get from Washington. The people want the return of Reagan Conservatism to Washington; smaller government, less spending and strong national security and those are the issues we campaigned on.

When we entered this race my husband Victor and I knew we were undertaking a monumental task. No Republican candidate has ever waged a successful write-in campaign to win a primary nomination in electoral history. We fought the good fight, but in the end we were unable to overcome this fundamental challenge.

Congratulations are in order for my opponent Kerry Bentivolio. I thank him for his service to our country on the battlefield and I wish him well in his upcoming campaign.

Thank you to my many volunteers who poured their heart and soul into this campaign. I couldn’t have done this without you and I am truly humbled by your support.”

Fairly classy, if only she would've ran her campaign that way. C ya around Nance

Kerry released the following statement:
After a hard-fought race, I ask Nancy Cassis' supporters to join with me. I also ask for my supporters to welcome them. We must become united so that we can keep the 11th District in the Republican column by promoting free markets and individual freedom. Together, we can defeat the Democrats in November.

I think it is safe to say that Kerry's chances of getting to congress will improve since Nancy has issued a congratulations to Kerry Bentivolio. I was afraid she might endorse the Democrat.

Hope the 200 grand didn't hurt ya too much.... oh hell, yes I do :)

How about the 650.000$ bill for the special election, is she still going to hand that to the taxpayers ?
Or did I miss something and there's no more special election ?

Well even if she didn't file, there would still be a special election because three other candidates filed for the Republican primary.

I think Kathy88's comment was about what Cassis supposedly committed to spend out of her own pocket. I'm not sure if she really did or not.

Has she made any comments regarding the special election? I can't see her still competing after this

She hasn't made any comments about the special but her name is on the ballot and it cannot be removed. I doubt she'll be spending any more money given that its a race for less than a two month term. Also, if she does campaign and win the primary, she'll have to campaign all the way through November. I can't see how it's worth it to her.

I wouldn't be so certain of that. If you read all her statements, it has all been about how she only lost because her name was not on the ballot. Can she still get on the ballot for the non-special general election as an independent?

I don't know.

I did find this in an article related to Gary Johnson:

Secretary of State Ruth Johnson is interpreting Michigan law to prevent his name from being printed on the ballot for the general election. At issue is the Michigan "sore loser" law preventing a candidate from being on the ballot for two different parties during the same year. Johnson's name was on the ballot for the Michigan Republican Primary in February, so Ruth Johnson is declaring Gary Johnson ineligible to run as the Libertarian Party candidate in November. This is despite the precedent of John Anderson, who ran for President in 1980 as a Republican during the primary, then ran as an independent during the general election. Then Secretary of State Richard Austin allowed Anderson's name to appear on the November ballot. If the Secretary of State continues to refuse to allow Gary Johnson on the ballot, the Libertarian Party of Michigan will sue.

Can she still get on the ballot for the non-special general election as an independent?
Highly unlikely even if she could. Many of her backers are party insiders and that would be even more ammo against them when it comes time to change the guard in January.

I found this quote of hers to be interesting.

Cassis acknowledged that the $500,000 spent by Liberty for All Political Action Committee late in the election for Bentivolio was difficult to counter. “It's sad when an outside organization comes in and buys an election,” Cassis said.

I guess her point of view is that only wealthy people should hold office, because they are the only ones that can spent 200K of their own money to buy an election.

She had PAC money from out of state, just not as much. But there's no reason for me to believe she would have discouraged a $300,000 PAC buy if anybody had stepped forward to do that for her.

Anytime Reagan conservatism is brought up, I roll my eyes. Don't get me wrong. His heart was in the right place, but let's be serious here. Why don't any of these fantastic stalwarts of Republican conservatism ever cite Barry Morris Goldwater conservatism? He is the true measuring stick as opposed to Reagan's failed promises.

Because the republican party is suffering from a brain drain. They elevated know-nothings in their party for years and intellectual conservatives either took a back seat or said, "check please" and tipped toed out the door. They honestly don't know history. Think Bush and Palin. Luckily the Pauls are bringing back intelligent conservatives with substance.
