Feb. 26 (Bloomberg) -- The U.S. Army is giving away 13,000 armored trucks, worth about $500,000 each. The 20-ton MRAPs, or Mine-Resistant Ambush-Protected trucks, were built specifically to save U.S. soldiers from roadside bombs in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Now the trucks are patrolling U.S. city streets. U.S. law enforcement agencies have received the lion’s share of this high-powered military surplus. (Source: Bloomberg)

Holy crap, 13,000 trucks at 500k a pop is 6.5 billion. What a waste of money.

Is there any way to find out who got what? Which states got how many or which cities got them?

Can I have one?

Yeah, no kidding. As long as they are giving the things away, I can argue compelling interest here. Law abiding citizen in danger of being MRAP'd by careless keystone kops; my own MRAP would mitigate the danger that this DRMO has placed me in. :D You can park it right over there ===>>

And thanks! :)

3,141 Counties, Boroughs, Districts in the U.S.

13,000 / 3,141 = 4.14 Armored Vehicles for every single county across America

You can count on, at least doubling that amount per populous counties, from deletion from sparse/remote/uninhabited lands.

Redlands Police Chief: I have a responsibility to the community to maintain armored capability.

. I have a responsibility to the residents, businesses and visitors of Redlands to think about the unthinkable and to be prepared to take action to protect innocent lives.

My commitment to our community is that under my command I will always do everything in my power to promote the safety of my officers and our community and to do so in a compassionate manner.
