So first thing is first, my dad and I got elected to the senatorial/county convention last night as Ron Paul delegates! It was awesome showing up and seeing the waiting area for the Republican convention (the Democrats went first) split into two groups: the random, unaffiliated group standing in one corner, and the second group, equally as numerous, full of 15 or so Ron Paul Supporters that all knew each other from emails or other grassroots efforts. Every time a Paul supporter would come in, one of the two precinct captains there would discreetly walk up and greet the person and bring them over to the good side!
The meeting went well, there were actually two precinct meetings held at the same time. My precinct had 8 Ron Paul supporters out of 21 people there, and we were all elected delegates and were able to pass two resolutions out of four. I believe the ones we passed were ones related to the NAU and the Trans-Texas Corridor and the REAL ID Act (both passed overwhelmingly, somewhat to my surprise). Ones involving pulling the troops home from Iraq and overseas and the PATRIOT Act were shot down. There was much debate over the resolutions and I was encouraged to see non-Paul supporters (to my knowledge) speaking eloquently against the REAL ID Act and the PATRIOT Act.
The other precinct had the other half of the Paul supporters and was basically a Ron Paul convention because there was only one non-Paul supporter there (7/8 people)! A supporter was elected convention chairman and secretary in that meeting. There must have been a lot of agreement there because they finished about 45 minutes before us! I can only imagine what kind of resolutions were passed!
The funniest part of the night was when the convention chairman (who is the president of the homeowner's association where my parents house is, and know to be kind of a pr*ck) was taking votes on the resolutions. I was elected secretary and at first he was buddy buddy with me, rolling his eyes at me each time the Paul supporters read our resolutions, only to become more bewildered each time I raised my hand to support each resolution. At one point, he actually turned to me (we were sitting at a table in front of everyone else) and said, "Wait, you actually SUPPORT that???" I just smiled and defiantly shook my head YES!!!
All in all, it was a great experience and I hope other Revolutionaries had similar successes all across the great state of TEXAS!
