Hey guys.

My meetup group is building the nations largest (to our knowledge) election sign.

I tried to get this going back in 2007 but I wasn't able to raise enough fund and the idea never really got off the ground. This time i've made a website with a Chip In function. www.bigronpaulsign.com

Here's the plan (snipped from the site)-
To build the largest election sign in U.S.

The sign, which will be over 80 feet long will read " RON PAUL 2012 ." Each 8 foot tall letter will be cut out of plywood and painted with a reflective white paint. When complete, the sign will be similar in style to the famous HOLLYWOOD sign.

The sign will be located in a field next to a busy stretch of I-44 highway outside Carthage, MO. This stretch of highway has over 40,000 travellers per day. The goal of the sign is to attract attention from local, regional and national media outlets which will report on the efforts of the grassroots Ron Paul support. This project will be done in conjunction with Southwest Missouri and Springfield Mo meetup groups. When this project is successful, it will serve as a blue print for other meetup groups and we could see these giant signs all over the country! We have the volunteers and tools to make this project happen, but we need help with funding for some of the materials. Please consider supporting this project by donating using the link on the right hand side of this page.

I know the site could be better, but it's the best I could do with my very limited resources/skills.

If you want to donate to grassroots or have reached your "official campaign" $2,500 limit please consider donating to this project.

I would like to try this too, is there laws against posting signs on hills like this?

What are the details of this field you guys plan on putting the sign in? Is it private property owned by a meetup member, or is it public property? I have a feeling a sign like this going on public property will get taken down by local beaurocrats.

We have a supporter who owns land that fronts the highway. This sign will require posts buried in the ground. I would NOT recommend doing it on public property.

Eleganz- I am going to make a how-to youtube video so other meetups can copy.

Please consider donating and spread the word!

If it doesn't happen, give the donations back to the donors, rather than giving it to the campaign.

Good idea, btw. Can we get a pic of the proposed site, as viewed from the highway?

I want to rent a laser machine and write Ron Paul 2012 on Boulder's Flatirons at night. If I did it right, they'd never find out where the source was. Muahaha...

I'm going to shoot a video that I will post coming soon.

This is the kind of awesomeness needs to happen a lot more around here. $10 sent. A lot of $5s and $10s can make this one happen. Lets get motivated...

Dude. That's awesome. Donation inc.. Brady, you just completed your payment.

Now, we just need pictures. Pictures!!!

I am so amazed at the outpouring of support for our project. We reached a $1,000 in less than 12 hours. There has been an overwhelming demand to hold a rally at the unveiling of the sign. In order to fund the rally and promote it, we have raised out goal to $1,500.00. Thanks for helping us make history.

$1,500?!?!?!?! What are the other $1,450 gonna be used for? Seriously, all you need is a bunch of plywood and some white paint. Is there going to be advertising or something else I'm missing here?

Ignore CarboJet. He has been outed before for his nonsense in one of my threads. Most likely an agent provocateur. Don't feed the trolls.

I think this is a great idea, just tossed you a $5. I'd like to see construction pictures along the way if you are able.

Link and Chip-in have been added to RP12.COM.
I guess Pasta doesn't realize that plywood costs more than $3 per sheet, and that it doesn't stand up all by itself.
Good luck with the project!
