My Iowa Caucus Speech

Good suggestions by everyone.

I'd squeeze in a line or two about homeschooling (big issue with christian conservatives) and ending the Dept of Education.

I'm hitting on electibility, polls against Obama, long coattails (all 4 of his Iowa endorsed candidates won). Mentioning a good debate want be between a Doctor and a lawyer about health care. Then hitting on the Federal Reserve and that Paul's setting the agenda, thanking Perry for pointing out that 90% of the country's problems are caused by the FED, then pointing out all the other candidates right jumping on board, where were they when the FED started causing the problems. Cutting a trillion from the budget will help spark the economy just like cutting the budget after WWII and not "trying to fuel the economy" like th FDR did in the 30's but comparing it to the depression of 1920-21 where the Federal Government did nothing and the mal-investments were shed off and some people lost money but the economy recovered quickly. Point out we need the money here at home not overseas trying to fix everybody problems. Israel's Prime Minister said before a joint session of Congress we interfere in their problems and stop them from taking the course of action Israel wants to. Iran's nuclear program has continually been found in compliance with the International Agreements, the CIA says so and the Mossad guy says so. Pro-life will restrict federal jurisdiction over abortion, quick way to end it in Iowa and start the move in the right direction. And government should not be involved in marriage it's only a tax on marriage and do we want the government to issue baptism licenses. Paul for peace, prosperity and Security and a return to the Constitution. And I'll add something about birth right citizenship.

Haven't read the thread but caucus speech can range from 2 to 5 minutes depending on the Caucus Chair. If the Caucus Chair announces that the speeches be limited to 2 minutes (or whatever) you can raise a "Motion that the Speeches be 5 minutes'" If the Motion is seconded then the body as a whole has to vote on the matter. Raise the point because the caucus for President vote is so important 5 minutes is appropriate. Ask when you check in what the length of the speeches will be.

For balancing the budget I would put in that as POTUS his income would be the median income of Americans. Saving $300k+ when he walks into office. Just a thought.

You did a great job with this. A couple of minor suggestions: I would change "who was drafted into the Air Force during Vietnam" to "who served in the Air Force during the Vietnam era."

Consider adding after the first sentence in the second paragraph "Dr. Paul is a graduate of the Duke University Medical School. He is an OB-GYN who has personally delivered over 4,000 babies."

Consider adding at the end of the fourth paragraph: "Ron Paul is a consistent, lifetime conservative. He has never voted for an unbalanced budget and has never voted to expand the power of the federal government."

These are just some minor suggestions. You know your community best, so go with whatever you think their hot-buttons are.

Brother you know your audience better than we do, but if it were me I'd stay away from the Iran and Israel stuff and just hammer on economic policy.

Have you guys considered just using the state approved speeches. They sent me a 1,2,3,4,5, minute speeches and they are pretty darn good. Just contact the state director and have him e-mail you the packet. Up here (NW Iowa) all of the precinct captains got theirs emailed to them.
They have a good idea what works and does not work. We want to win over every possible vote and not put off anyone. If you know a lot about speeches it might be alright but I would use the ones that were judged at the state level. This is too important to screw up.

I'd move for 5 minutes no matter what...even if you don't plan on using them, and I wouldn't.

IMO there's not 5 minutes worth of information available that's going to change someone's mind. So if someone else tries to fill 5 minutes when they had only planned on 2, they're going to end up boring people. Advantage: person with the shorter, more concise and energy-packed speech.

Also, if you plan a 2-3 minute speech and for some reason it doesn't time out like you planned (this OFTEN happens because of nerves, or whatever), you've got flex built in...if you plan for 5 and go over, then someone's giving you the gong, you don't get to end like you want, and might cause some animosity with whoever has the gong.

People are going to react as much or more to how you look and how you sound in your speech. It's just human nature.

The campaign can write the speeches, but they can't make you excited about it. So use whatever speech gets you going, gets you ready to run through walls. It'll make for a better speech. Just don't actually run through a wall or sound like Howard Dean.

Foreign policy = get out of Afghanistan, stop spending trillions on foreign wars and bring that money home to invest in our country. That's a big winner among pretty much all demos. Go no further.

I would end it would something like "Ron Paul is the true candidate of change. Something this country needs dearly. He will become the people's President. Please strongly consider Paul tonight before casting your vote..."
