My Friend the nut case

Arguing with neocons about the war is counter productive. Know your audiance, and try not to be in 'attack' mode, especially when talking with a friend.

As soon as he said the war has nothing to do with the economy, I knew this guy was clueless. The nice thing about neocon candidates is they have tons of dirt, you can easily shift the subject to Ron Paul's flawless conservative voting record and all of McCain's failures.

yeah, aznsouljah.... those types of things while fascinating and interesting to us ron paul supporters are exactly the types of things that turn off casual supporters and would-be supporters because they are considered "fringe" or not mainstream

my friend is a dental student in new york and very conservative

Don't try to convince people to change their belief systems. You're wasting your time and energy. Instead, find out what they care about, and appeal to it. Find out the things they ALREADY love about Ron Paul...but just don't know that he represents. And share it with them.

My Friend The Douchebag.......I nominate for best thread title ever. It's hilarious and it perfectly summarizes the post.

Here's the "diff" for your friend. The diff is there's going to be one BIG ASS draft if McCain (or anyone else) wins. So, yeah, there is a "diff."

In my view you started the conversation the wrong way to win a conversion-- you started out telling him to vote for ron paul. I've noticed when canvassing that it is much more effective to have the person bring up an issue first. My "punchline" (i.e. possible END of conversation) is to encourage the person to consider voting for Ron Paul. That's after I give them information and answer questions if they have, if any. Telling someone right off the bat how to register and how to vote automatically puts them on the defensive.

explain to him the frog in the pot analogy with his personal liberties. maybe he values that.
