Were you around in 2008? Yes Ron did distance himself from Reconstructionism and white nationalism. And Lew stubbornly refused to take credit for the racist newsletters and let Ron get destroyed by the media. Lew Rockwell is one of the reasons Ron Paul is not president. Lew is a coward.

I've read/listened to just about everything Rothbard ever wrote/said, I doubt there's anything out there that would change my opinion of him.

Open Letter To Lew Rockwell – From John Robbins

Dear Lew,

You have now had three opportunities –1996, 2001, and 2008 — to prove that you are a friend of Ron Paul and freedom, and you have failed to do so each time.

This week, for the third time, the puerile, racist, and completely un-Pauline comments that all informed people say you have caused to appear in Ron’s newsletters over the course of several years have become an issue in his campaign. This time the stakes are even higher than before. He is seeking nationwide office, the Republican nomination for President, and his campaign is attracting millions of supporters, not tens of thousands.

Three times you have failed to come forward and admit responsibility for and complicity in the scandals. You have allowed Ron to twist slowly in the wind. Because of your silence, Ron has been forced to issue repeated statements of denial, to answer repeated questions in multiple interviews, and to be embarrassed on national television. Your callous disregard for both Ron and his millions of supporters is unconscionable.

If you were Dr. Paul’s friend, or a friend of freedom, as you pretend to be, by now you would have stepped forward, assumed responsibility for those asinine and harmful comments, resigned from any connection to Ron or his campaign, and relieved Ron of the burden of having to repeatedly deny the charges of racism. But you have not done so, and so the scandal continues to detract from Ron’s message.

You know as well as I do that Ron does not have a racist bone in his body, yet those racist remarks went out under his name, not yours. Pretty clever. But now it’s time to man up, Lew. Admit your role, and exonerate Ron. You should have done it years ago.

You most likely have read his books, and I have read several too. It's the newsletters that are the most eye opening. They make me sick.

His efforts in furtherance of the paleo strategy were distasteful (as, for that matter, were his efforts in furtherance of the New Left a few decades earlier), but it was just rhetoric for the rabble; you weren't the target audience, and it has nothing to do with Rothbard's own principles. He understood libertarianism perfectly and he also understood perfectly how politics actually works (it ain't a philosophy seminar, to paraphrase the man himself). Agree or disagree with the strategy (it obviously didn't work), but Rothbard's motives should not be in question.

None of us would be here, no one would have ever heard of libertarianism, Mises would be rotting on a shelf in Vienna...

...were it not for Rothbard.

Why? Because he didn't take credit for something he didn't write?

He was the editor for years of that newsletter. Whatever statements were in that newsletter, Lew approved them. And he put those out under Ron's name. He could have been a man and owned up to his responsibility for them, but instead he stabbed Ron in the back.

After reading several statements in the newsletters today, and other statements by Rothbard in other newsletters, it's safe to say if anyone said those things on RPFs, they would be banned immediately. It's the kind of sickening stuff you get from Stormfront.org.
