If the 2012 Republican Primary for President were held today and you had a choice between Rick Perry, Rick Santorum, Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain, Buddy Roemer, Gary Johnson, Thaddeus McCotter or John Huntsman for whom would you vote?

Michele Bachmann 27%
Rick Santorum 12%
Herman Cain 9%
Rick Perry 7%
Jon Huntsman 3%
Buddy Roemer 1%
Gary Johnson 1%
Thaddeus McCotter 1%
Some other candidate 17%
Undecided 22%

The survey of 1,000 Likely GOP Primary Voters was conducted on April 26, 2011 by Rasmussen Reports. Likely GOP Primary Voters include both Republicans and unaffiliated voters likely to vote in a GOP Primary. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.

So Rasmussen is going to include Ron Paul on all of their "front-runner" polls now, right? If he's not a dark-horse, he shouldn't be left off any lists.

grumble grumble polls are meaningless in results, but very meaningful in creating illusions.

Well, some who thought some might do better if Ron weren't a choice get to see how that might work out.

Interesting that Ron's 8% doesn't go to Gary Johnson.

Ron would have gotten a lot more than 8% in this lineup. He typically gets more than Bachmann, but wasn't considered a dark horse candidate, hence he wasn't in the poll.

So do they consider Ron a frontrunner then? Or did they just want to leave Dr. Paul off the poll? I'm leaning towards the latter.

They do poll him in head to head polls against Obama every few months. I don't think they bother with these others. But I haven't been tracking these others, really. They DID just do a wish list poll of people they want to catch on (but included Bachmann) the others were all pawlenty, daniels, thune, paul ryan, christie, romney types

Well, to be fair, Ron is a bit of an interesting candidate. He's not really a "front runner" in the traditional sense, but he's not a dark horse either because he has such great name recognition. I guess at this point no one is really a "front runner" because no one is polling all that well, no one is pulling away in the polls. The race is ripe for Ron, it's there for the taking.
