Multiple explosions rock Sri Lanka capital on Easter Sunday

Hmmm...I wonder if that dizzy broad of a PM in New Zealand will now wear a nun's habit in "solidarity"?

I will also await the world wide outcry and weeping and gnashing of teeth and rending of garments in protest of this violent act of Islamic Supremacism.

What's that you say?...don't hold my breath while I wait???

Why?

Over 290 now known as dead.

Still waiting.

As is usually the case lately, conspiracy theories have started in this case also:

Proof is generally not a prerequiste for such theories to flourish, in part due to increasing distrust in mainstream media.
In this case of high sophistication, a few media outlets like Israeli jpost/India's media pushing 'unconfirmed' speculation about some ragtag local anti-India preacher does not seem too convincing though looking at dynamics in Sri Lanka and the region. Both local Christian and Muslim minorities in Sri Lanka have faced attacks from larger demograhic groups there (Buddist, Hindu Tamil) and State of Sri Lanks has been more aggressive in protecting minorities compared to some countries in the region like Mynamar, India, Paksitan. Few months ago Indian media was globally discredited for pushing bogus claims during their fighter jets dogfight over Kashmir with neigboring Pakistan. Its media quickly pushing name of some local anti-India preacher smells bit fishy and opportunist. Time will tell who may have aimed to destabilize Sri Lanka, this seemed too well orchestrated for some small local actor.
While it certainly might be a false flag I stopped reading that article here:

There is only one organization in the world that has the capability to conduct such a sophisticated and complex series of terrorist attacks which just occurred across the island nation of Sri Lanka—Operation Gladio.
There is most certainly a vast number of organizations capable of conducting such an operation as a false flag and quite a few of them could have a motive to do so.

Deductive and inductive logic, I was absolutely right about the NZ shooting, I have not yet decided whether this attack was a false flag or not.

The people who carry them out, if they work.

I can tell you that having been in first hand battlefield carnage the video was real. Once again... The body matter spray on that video cannot be reproduced. I have witnessed it personally.

I'm sure you are right but it could still be the work of some other party than those who are being blamed or the accused could have been put up to it by someone else.

I understand... But the video is real, And it happened. There may be deceptive sources behind the event and action, but the idea and conspiracy that the video is faked is absolutely false. In fact as I watched it for the fist time it brought back a smell I had forgotten and hoped I would never smell again in my lifetime. My mind smelled it again even though there was no smell.

I recall someone saying they would prefer India because Americans are so evil for wanting a defended border. I wonder if that person would prefer Sri Lanka as well.

The problem with religious conflicts is that both sides are wrong about the historical facts that originally started it and they deny their own mistakes. Muslims did not invade Europe first to give justification for the crusades. The Phoneticians and the Berbers had a peaceful trading network in the Mediterranean and the Iberian peninsula before Islam was born. Yet the Iberian peninsula was used as justification for the defense from an Islamic invasion into Europe to justify the crusades. The temple was not destroyed by Islamic tribes, It was destroyed by Babylonians several decades before Islam was born. Yet the destruction of the temple is THE excuse for the conflict between the Hebrews and the Arabs. And it goes on and on back to the first recorded conflict between Kish and Elam. No one is right and everyone is wrong in this conflict of retaliation back and forth since. The truth is stranger than fiction...

Sri Lanka‘s prime minister has demanded an investigation into apparent intelligence failures before the Easter bombings that killed more than 200 people.

Ranil Wickremsinghe acknowledged that his government had received prior information of the attack, but that ministers were not told.
There had not been an adequate response, he said, and an inquiry was necessary to find out how the information was used.

It would be prudent have an investigation into this. They can form a “commission” made up of officials who were involved in the failures, and they can investigate what happened. The commission can then issue a report, identifying the failures, and recommending actions that can be taken to make sure that this never happens again. Not to get too far out ahead of them, but the solution should include increased funding for the government organizations involved in the failures, and extensive spying on all citizens of the nation. Clearly there is not enough surveillance of the population. It’s for the children!

Sound familiar? Under every bed and in every drawer...

They can hire Mueller to advise them now that he is out of work.

[h=2]FBI Sends Agents To Help Investigate Sri Lanka Attacks[/h]

Sri Lanka said on Monday it was invoking emergency powers in the aftermath of devastating bomb attacks on hotels and churches, blamed on militants with foreign links, in which 290 people were killed and nearly 500 wounded.

The emergency law, which gives police and the military extensive powers to detain and interrogate suspects without court orders, will go into effect at midnight on Monday, the president’s office said.

A night curfew went into effect at 8 p.m.

[h=2]The statement of condolences issued by the Department of Homeland Security after the bombing by alleged Muslims in Sri Lanka did not mention the religion of the victims, even though they were in Christian churches.[/h] Instead, the DHS statement described the targets merely as “places of worship.”
The statement’s vagueness matches the statements issued by Democrats who described the victims as “Easter worshippers.”

The Islamic State terror group claimed credit Tuesday for the suicide attacks in Sri Lanka that killed more than 300 people, which officials believe was motivated by revenge over last month's attacks on two New Zealand mosques. About 50 people died at the mosques in Christchurch on March 15. Authorities say they were shot dead by a white nationalist from Australia. Sri Lankan defense minister Ruwan Wijewardene told lawmakers Tuesday the coordinated bombings Sunday amounted to payback.

"Investigations have revealed that the attacks were carried out by Islamic extremists in retaliation to the mosque attacks in Christchurch, New Zealand," Wijewardene told Sri Lanka Parliament.
Sri Lanka officials raised the death toll Tuesday to 321, as nearly two dozen injured succumbed to their wounds in hospitals. More than 500 people were hurt in the attacks, which targeted three churches and three hotels in the capital, Colombo.

The Islamic State terror group claimed responsibility for the attacks, the network's Amaq news agency said Tuesday. Sri Lankan officials previously said local terror group National Thowheed Jamaththey was involved in the plot, but stressed it likely received help from a more sophisticated "international" group.
Police spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said officers have arrested about 40 suspects, all of whom are Sri Lankan citizens.

The Washington Post cited a three-page intelligence report that warned Sri Lanka officials of coming attacks and also identified several members of a local terror cell by name, including the purported leader.
"Don't take this as a joke, as long as the division between the president and the prime minister exists, you can't solve this problem -- my security division knew about the advance notice [of the attacks], I did not," Wijewardene said.
Sri Lankan lawmaker Mujibur Rahman said he was briefed on the report beforehand, which came from Indian intelligence agencies.

Sri Lankan authorities have warned people to watch out for additional strikes. Police have urged Sri Lankans to watch for suspicious taxi cabs, bicycles and vans that could be carrying more bombs.
Several American citizens were among those killed.
The Sri Lanka government is under a state of emergency that took effect at midnight Monday. It allows military and police forces to detain and interrogate potential suspects without a court order. Officials said more than two dozen suspects have been questioned by Sri Lanka's Criminal and Terrorist Investigations Departments.
The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation and Interpol are aiding in the investigation. In a statement Monday, Interpol said a team had been deployed to Sri Lanka and checks have been made with stolen and lost travel documents and nominal databases to identify potential leads.

Beyond killing 359 people, including foreign tourists from about a dozen countries, the blasts may end up unwinding the country’s shift toward Western-style democracy.
Even before the attack, more and more Sri Lankans had grown disillusioned with the combination of Sirisena and Wickremesinghe, who formed an alliance to defeat Rajapaksa in a landmark 2015 election. Back then, the pair promised to stop blocking websites, end intimidation of the media and bring market-based reforms that would attract investors other than the Chinese government, which was scooping up key pieces of infrastructure.
“We thought this new government -- a liberal, western-oriented government -- would jump start the economy, get the economy taking off,” said Jehan Perera, a Harvard-educated lawyer who serves as executive director at the National Peace Council of Sri Lanka, a human rights group.
“But it didn’t happen,” he said. “The old government leaders, although they violated human rights, they had a national security state. They gave coherence. And now once again, in this chaotic situation, people are thinking of that.”

Waiting in the wings is Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, the former president’s brother who led the army when the civil war ended. In a phone interview late Tuesday, he accused the government of “pure ignorance” for focusing too much on human rights and reconciliation rather than national security.
“If there was even the slightest thing, we chased them and arrested them and took action to prevent incidents,” Rajapaksa said of his family’s time in power. “Without security, you lose everything. Is there reconciliation now? Is there freedom now?”
In the aftermath of the war, annual economic growth rates repeatedly topped 8 percent on the back of easy credit and pent-up demand. Tourist arrivals increased five-fold since 2009 to more than 2.3 million last year, while foreign direct investment reached nearly $1.4 billion in 2017 -- about seven times greater than in the early 2000s.
Still, in recent years those high growth numbers have faded away. Low fiscal revenues and high debts have forced the government to cut social spending and seek help from the International Monetary Fund -- financial troubles that may now get worse.
After the bombing, Sri Lanka’s rupee fell the most in two months, bonds tumbled and stocks led global declines. The U.S., China and other nations warned against travel to Sri Lanka, threatening to exacerbate the economic impact.

The current government appears particularly unprepared to formulate a coherent response: The two most powerful leaders in the country have been dueling since last November. Sensing the changing winds ahead of a presidential election that must take place this year, Sirisena had abruptly fired Wickremesinghe as prime minister and appointed Mahinda Rajapaksa in his place. The courts forced him to backtrack weeks later.
Razeen Sally, who advised the government on economic policy until several months ago, called the government “dysfunctional” and described the atmosphere in the administration as “poisonous.” With elections looming, he said, the best it can do is “short-term fire fighting.”
“What we haven’t seen since the end of the war is serious productivity-led growth,” Sally said. “It’s not happened because this government has not been able to deliver any serious economic reforms. It’s just drifted along.”
The internal tensions have surfaced in recent days over intelligence failures in the run-up to the blasts. Wickremesinghe said authorities had received warnings but “not enough attention had been paid” -- a veiled shot at Sirisena, who oversees the nation’s security forces.
“If it was known certainly we could have prevented many of the attacks in the churches, and had more security in the hotels,” Wickremesinghe told reporters on Tuesday night in Colombo. “We could have prevented all of the attacks or at least reduced the number of attacks.”
The degree of sophistication and coordination involved in the attacks shocked even long-time watchers of South Asian security issues. The government is searching for international links to a local jihadist group blamed called the National Thowheed Jamath. Islamic State claimed responsibility on Tuesday, a claim the government couldn’t immediately verify.
Either way, Islamist attacks against Christians and foreign tourists marks a shift from the violence during the civil war, and could inflame sectarian tensions that had largely been kept under control over the past decade. Whereas previously Tamils were looked at with suspicion, now Muslims -- who already faced discrimination from radical Buddhists -- are at risk of a violent backlash.
Already Gotabhaya Rajapaksa is asking more questions about how the current government has treated Muslim groups, even while saying he wouldn’t seek electoral gains by stoking tensions between the Buddhist majority and Muslims.
“The government from the very beginning wanted to keep the minority vote with them, so they didn’t take any action,” Rajapaksa said.
The violent attacks, the ensuing political uncertainty and an upsurge in nationalism is almost certainly going to strengthen the Rajapaksa family, according to Alan Keenan, a London-based senior Sri Lanka analyst for the International Crisis Group who has lived on and off in the country for nearly two decades.
