Mother fined $10 for not including Ritz crackers in kids’ school lunch

Manitoba Government’s Early Learning and Child Care fined mother Kristen Bartkiw $10 because she neglected to include healthful Ritz crackers in her kids’ school lunches. Weighty Matters has more details:
She sent her children to daycare with with lunches containing leftover homemade roast beef and potatoes, carrots, an orange and some milk.
She did not send along any “grains”.
As a consequence the school provided her children with, I kid you not, supplemental Ritz Crackers, and her with a $10 fine.

First off it Canada. Second it's daycare and it's a pain in the ass. However this would have been something clearly spelled out in the handbook. Since it's a contract between the provider and the center the parents need to shut their pie hole and pay it or leave.

On a side note though there's no way a kid would eat all of that so most would go to waste.

I noticed it was in Canada, but it's surely a sign of things to come here eventually. So true about it all going to waste, too.

Leave? What friggin choice do you have if every daycare has to follow the federal guidelines?

Isn't there enough wrong in this country?

Let the Canucks enjoy their very special form of socialism, they keep voting for it.

That's really just $9.60 USD today, but a year ago it might have been more like $9.75.

It's ridiculous that any daycare would do that. I would definitely leave, and so should all parents. Daycare is just daycare, it's not a lifestyle course.

Betcha a cyber nickle it's a government funded daycare...

Although I'm not aware of how daycare works in either the US or Canada I think I can give a nice perspective on how daycare works in the Netherlands, or at least how over the years it has changed.

First government thought it needed more revenue (#default)
Then government figured since child labor was banned and old people aren't productive enough, get more women to work.
To get more women to work politicians figured out that they needed to be separated from their kids, that whole raising kids would be a lot more efficient if outsourced.

So they subsidized daycare.
Soon many women brought their kids to daycare's and everybody was happy.

EXCEPT.
Nobody is happy at the moment because prices have skyrocketed...

Daycare for a single kid now costs about a days worth of after tax income at minimum wage.

Basically, and it's really sad, these women are working almost for free so they DON'T have to raise their kids.

I'd have sued them for giving my kid shitty, trans-fat laden crackers and point out to them that potatoes are generally far healthier than freaking crackers.

Retards.

Agree. They essentially forced junk food on the kid. This is outrageous.

I have Ritz crackers out the ass, I have an 80 some yr old family member that eats them with everything.Stop by , avoid the fine , get a few crackers from Oyarde , lol

Who doesn't? I like them with a side of cottage cheese.

My "outrage" over Ritz crackers isn't genuine, but I think it's funny that they'd "fortify" the kid's lunches with something so unhealthy.

Mine is, I would be cramming paleo literature down their throat and tell them how they are giving all of the kids diabetes and leaky gut until they allowed me to give my kid paleo lunches.
