over at daily kos www.dailykos.com there is a frontpage story by the site owner (it's one of the biggest left-leaning blogs) that is smearing Paul as a racist and bigot over the old newsletter story.

kos probably realizes that it's becoming more and more obvious that the democrats ran in 2006 on "stopping Bush" and didn't deliver squat. The American people know that the same interests buying big government people on the right have bought out big government people on the left.

Typical leftist pig strategy. In fact many of the policies that they advocate show me that they are the racist ones. This is one reason I will NEVER vote for a Dem.

Kos wants to be a "libertarian Democrat." It is within his agenda to attack libertarian Republicans.

He is getting slammed in the comment section on The Huffington Post

I know Ron didn't say this stuff, but even if he did it isn't far from the facts.

From U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics

Please do not try and justify something Ron didn't say.

I really wish the campaign would DEAL with these baseless lies, they have 18 million yet have failed to respond to any of it. I am starting to think they are useless. How many votes are we loosening each day these accusations go unchallenged?

As if anyone didnt know that they would harp on this racist stuff.. Im sure it will only get worse.. To be honest, i find it pretty rediculous that a "Ron Paul" newsletter wouldnt even be proofread by Ron Paul himself. So the line of attack will be : a) didnt want civil war to free slaves b) hates jews and israel c) thinks black people are thugs. Whether those are true or not, it will be used to ruin the campain. The info about the newsletter has been out for ages - yet its being brought up at the "last minute" to sabotage the campain. By who? DailyKos - to try not to split the democratic vote,. DailyKos is a piece of shit, as much is RedState.

However, you must agree - this was brought on by the man himself. I personally dont buy the "I didnt inhale" properties of the "I didnt write it" excuse. It doesnt matter if you didnt write it or not, your name is on it - therefore you take responsibility for it. Im sure I will get labeled "Troll" or whatever.. This is just my opinion, and I havent changed my support of Dr. Paul. However, the more this racist stuff keeps coming up, the more queasy I get.

I am not trying to justify anything, just reporting on the facts. The U.S. governments own statistics have blacks committing homicide at currently 6-7 times the rate of whites per 100,000.

I highly doubt Paul wrote that article but the silence on the part of HQ is oh so damaging. Silence indicates guilt to the public. They need to spend some of that money and fight back these racist claims, it would be easy, just point out the fact that during the 80s Paul was the only politician who realized the war on drugs was a mistake and damaging the inner city. He has so many other tolerant positions and yet instead of focusing on them Paul is talking about Lincoln and the Civil War (True it is brought up by the media but he keeps playing into their trap).

I am amazed at how similar LGF and DKos are when it comes to Paul. The comments on both sites are some of the vilest comments I have seen in a long while. Maybe it is some parody that I am not aware of, but I am disheartened by the inability of these people to understand how utterly irrational they are in their hatred. But I guess that is a good thing. They wouldn't be attacking like this, if they weren't scared. It shows that Paul is the only real opposition the GOP can present against the democrats.

Have you read the article in question? I personally saw no indication that the writing was by Paul. The style is completely different and very focused on people as groups, which is the anti-thesis to what Paul has been saying for decades. I also recall that the writing was analyzed by experts (in the 2001 article, I think) and found it to depart considerably from Paul's writing style.

The issue is no-win situation for Paul. He can either offer the real writer as a sacrificial lamb to the press and hope that that is the end of it, or he can keep to his principles and address the situation as he has been. Neither option will guarantee that the issue will be over, unless the writer him/herself comes out admitting to writing the article. But I doubt even that will prevent those keen on smearing Paul from using the article.

And, of course, addressing the article before absolutely necessary, will mean that it will be headline news the next day.

Thinkprogress has also picked up the story. This is not good at all.

WTF is HQ doing to get in front of this? It is snowballing.
