Mopeds/Scooters--May be less regulated in your state

I've been through a lot of bikes over the years.

I currently own two,...a 2009 Dyna Super Glide and a 2003 650 Suzuki Burgman.

I think some of you need to modify your definition of what a scooter is.

The Burgman is water cooled, fuel injected, will cruise all day long at 85+mph, and has a top speed well in excess of 100 mph.

It has a 62" wheelbase and weighs 600 lbs. I've outfitted it with a Corbin seat and trimmed the windshield. It's a great open road machine.

The Super Glide has its appeal, also,..but if I'm planning on doing any distance riding, the Burgman gets the nod every time.

Nope, just government does. ;)

Pretty cool ride! But holy smokes, the price?! http://www.suzukicycles.com/Product Lines/Scooters/Products/Burgman 650/2013/AN650A.aspx#Specs

Okay, I give--what's a hardtailed pan?

Hardtail: Motorcycle with no rear suspension. Motorized version of a 'boneshaker' bicycle. Misnamed, to a degree--generally used by men who want to appear very manly despite actually having a well-cusioned butt.

Panhead: Overhead valve Harley-Davidson engine produced from approx. 1947-1965 which used valve covers that looked like chromed skillets. A hardtail Panhead would normally be one of the rare Harley-Davidsons produced between the introduction of the 'Panhead' motor after World War II and the 'Duo-Glide' rear suspension system a couple of years later. This is not necessarily so, however; engines get swapped and Duo-Glides have had their rear suspension eliminated because most hardcore bikers consider that the best looking 'scooters' are built around a 'hardtail' frame.

Just in case you ever thought that vanity never made anyone's ass numb.

I am used to seeing these everywhere in my original hometown. No license , insurance required , so every young guy who has lost his license for DUI , uses one of the to go back and forth to work , until they get license back.I have a Brotherin Law who is single, never been married or had kids lives in a small house three blocks from where he works, rides on of these to work ea day.He has a vehicle he never drives, liquor store is in between his house & work. I would just walk if I was him :), he has always been crazy though , known him since I was 16.

I wondered why there were so many more on Craigslist in Fort Wayne than there are here. Here, you need a license but not insurance.

At least here there wouldn't be that stigma. :p

As a former cop, I've often questioned the use of 'driver's licenses' for privately owned/operated vehicles since you do have a right to free travel (buggy, scooter...) yet we mandate and regulate POVs. Theoretically, the only thing that should require a driver's license is a vehicle being used for commercial purposes.

Ah, but when you have an almost monopoly on *schooling* people, you can tell them that "Driving" is a privilege and you must pay the mob their piece otherwise they send the enforcers after you.

It's a big business.

Anyhoo, right tool for the job. A scooter would be great for around town stuff. I need about 5-6 bikes in the stable to meet all my needs.

Last I checked, you don't need a driver's license or insurance to use a Segway either. You can use them on sidewalks too.
