Everyone can agree that it is indeed very ugly. No one did this because they thought it was nice.
So why do they do it?
The phenomenon is called power-tripping.
They know it will upset people, and this is the reason they do it.
It is similar to dragging an enemy banner through the mud – it is a dishonourable sign of dominance.
They get a rush from doing it.
They get a rush from destroying things that are dear to others.
Once you understand this dynamic you will see it quite often.
