[Mod: RCPerror] Ron Paul 7 delegates in maine - Santorum 9. Could someone please explain?

I thought it was a big mistake to talk about getting delegates...now the entire GOP is on alert and they have measures in place to counteract Ron Paul flooding the state conventions by implementing rule changes, pledges etc...to 'out' the Paul people or get more delegates etc...I'll now bite my tongue.

These are estimates and are wildly inaccurate. The county conventions haven't met yet, and the state ones certainly haven't. The only accurate ones are NH, FL, SC and NV. NV may change when the convention comes.

NV may change when the convention comes.

I've heard others say this but I don't understand. How could it change at the State Convention? Are we assuming that delegate election rules can be changed at every state's convention by majority vote?

They are not as organized as you seem to believe.

That is the theory. You would have to check each individual states rules though. In the case of Nevada, it is absolutely possible. I'm not sure if it would require a majority or a supermajority, or if changing the rules would mean the RNC would strip some delegates for breaking the rule stating they must be proportional. Benton talked about it (briefly) in an interview a couple of months back, and others have too.

Hey guys...come on pauleeze!

There are currently zero delegates for any candidate as of yet in Maine.

The precinct level delegates who were elected during various caucuses will head to the state convention in Augusta May 5th and 6th to vote for delegates to go to Tampa. Bottom line.

It does look very good for Dr Paul though. Especially since Romney will probably lose some to Santorum because of his "surge".

The individuals have not been selected in any of those states, except NH.

I wasn't talking about who they actually support, I was talking about who they will be voting for on the first ballot at the convention unless state rules are changed.

Ron said we were estimated to be in 2nd place and the media repeated what he said after the debate. I wouldn't worry too much. Still a long ways to go and it seems the other candidates are struggling a tiny bit.

The establishment higher-ups, like county chairs, etc., already knew about the whole delegate thing. In my state and congressional district, they've had their 3 main delegates and 3 alternate delegates lined up for a while now.

The estimates you're seeing from places like RCP, CNN, NYT, are all hogwash. Iowa hasn't even had its first of two conventions to establish the congressional district delegates (Iowa's county conventions are the Saturday after Super Tuesday). We'll start to get better delegate counts in April when Iowa and other caucus states actually start finishing up with their whole processes.
