MN GOP Membership: Carey gets an "F"

I was a delegate at the convention. Just about every podium speaker and elected official said the MN GOP needed to attract new members. Why is it then that the MN GOP leadership spent a huge amount of effort to successfully disenfranchise the large number of Barry Goldwater/Reagan style Republicans which MN GOP Chairman Ron Carey estimated at 25% of the MN State Delegation?

McCain already has the nomination which now makes Ron Paul a message candidate for change. Ron Paul wants to move the Republican Party back to its roots and has repeatedly said the GOP has lost its way. Guess what...now Coleman and Pawlenty are saying the same thing in their convention speeches. So where is the problem?

The MN GOP leadership has clearly lost their mind by shoving all these new people out. Carey’s actions towards these new members is in complete contradiction to his statements he “wants the Ron Paul people to be part of the party”. Carey has done everything in his power to shove them out.

With the MN GOP clearly needing more members, what is Carey’s plan now?…get new MN GOP members over the internet?…oh whoops, Ron Paul dominates there…get new members on College Campuses?…oh whoops, Ron Paul draws huge young crowds there too.

The new people Carey is systematically shoving out are the very same new people that caused the MN GOP coffers to swell through the “sudden” increase in a large number of smaller dollar amount contributions.

I give Carey a big fat “F” on MN GOP membership recruiting and retention.

I think the largest cause for the rift between was the Nomination Commitee's culling the the possible delegates. Certainly, I can understand the reasoning behind their purpose to prevent a huge ballot and the likelihood of additional ballets, but had all the Ron Paul supporters been on the ballot, the rift that developed during the convention would not have been as contentious. Though it is unlikely the results would have been much different, there would not have been as much fertile ground to call out corruption.

Unfortunately, I think the state Republican party missed an opportunity to add to their base. Had Paul supporters been welcomed and treated openly and fairly and given the opportunity to vote for the delegates they wished to support, I believe they would ultimately lend their support to all Republican canidates knowing that they had a place in the party from which they could continue to pull for their cause.

Instead, may Paul supporters left feeling cheated and disenfranchised and will now as one Paul supporter put it take a "Wait and See" approach to the November elections.

I'd say we had closer to 40% of the delegation. Of the 4 Ron Paul people the party deigned to allow on the ballot, we each got over 40%, and I was clearly on the record as a flaming Ron Paul Republican. We actually could have had 50% of the convention if all our people had shown up. There were many empty seats there our alternates could have filled.

Thank you for all that you did.

The core establishment MN GOP needs to be challenged and a contestment filed with the RNC.
This kind of behavior is not to be accepted or ignored. They are disenfranchising our votes which in most states is illegal. What happened to Help America Vote?

Thanks for all the delegates efforts. Good job.
