A father who tried to protect his 12-year-old daughter after she was groped while leaving Valleyfair amusement park was beaten, stomped in the face and kicked by a group of young men, police said.

The 41-year-old victim, identified in a criminal complaint only by his initials, was unconscious when police arrived. He suffered skull fractures and possible bleeding on the brain, the documents said.

"We see assaults, but that's brutal," Shakopee police Sgt. Jay Arras said.

I actually understand the individual or family reaction. But I don't condone the collective or group handling it in such a manner. Too slipper slope for me.

I am reminded of the story of the nature preserve in Africa where the animals were getting pillaged nightly. After a video was released it was found parentless baby elephants were going wild at night. To solve the problem some adult elephants were brought in, problem solved. These idiots obviously raised themselves and society is left to deal with the consequences. People like this are literally the closest thing to the animal mentality we produce. They only act out of the senses, with zippo reasoning because they are incapable of it. The parents should be sterilized.

How can a busy amusement park on the Fourth of July not be patrolled? How can they have time to beat him that severely in a place that must be one of the most crowded spots in town on a holiday? The fallacy of this police state they're trying to create is that it does nothing to keep one safe and secure. Just as Dubya didn't lift a finger to keep us safe from 'terrists' during his first year in office.

Don't want armed citizens and/or vigilantes competing with your cops? Make sure your cops are effective!

I agree with you. I can't advocate such a system. I couldn't participate in such a thing. If I were there I would argue strongly against it, even to the point where someone offered to string me up with them. I would decry such a thing.

But somewhere deep down inside, I agree with you. The only problem is, humans err. So, can't be done.

Just wish I had been armed and on the spot. Sure, jail my ass. The guy who goes to prison for defending a young girl and her brave father will be treated with deference by most of the convicts.
