No it wasn't, but slavery is an abomination and blight on this country's history as were the Jim Crow laws. MLK wasn't perfect, no person is, but he certainly used non-violence to bring about a change that made society better and more tolerant. If we're really libertarians we should be happy to see people who actually believed in not having people judged by group affiliation, especially when they have no control over what group they are born into.

Changing your avatar to a picture of a communist to celebrate liberty makes zero sense.

"And don't let anybody make you think that God chose America as his divine, messianic force to be a sort of policeman of the whole world. God has a way of standing before the nations with judgment, and it seems that I can hear God saying to America, "You're too arrogant! And if you don't change your ways, I will rise up and break the backbone of your power, and I'll place it in the hands of a nation that doesn't even know my name. Be still and know that I'm God."

-MLK

That's some strong medicine, but the patient requires it.

Nice quote TheDHC!! :)

Including me, we are at $17.00 now going to Paul. I will be sending in whatever has been tallied at 11:45 to get it in for the SC money bomb before they close it tonight. I will still send in any dollars earned afterward up until noon tomorrow.

I am willing to donate $33 more dollars to Paul if anyone wants to take it from me to give to him. Just pick an MLK avatar to sport through Monday, and make note here.

For all of those who are saying MLK is a communist, adulterer, or otherwise bad person, you bring up some very good points. For that, you win an Award! The idea of the thread is not to debate MLK. It is undisputed he was a champion of liberty. That is the point of the thread. The rest should be debated somewhere else.

The Civil War wasn't about slavery. Do you realize Ulysses S. Grant had slaves?

A) Those weren't his slaves. They were his wife's slaves. If people who talk about Robert E. Lee not having slaves ignore the fact that he managed his father in laws slave then folks who want to talk about Grant can't bring up relatives slaves either.

B) The southern declarations of secession make it very clear that slavery was one of the key issues they were seceding over, even though it wasn't the only issue.

C) Ron Paul himself said that the "mistake of slavery" helped lead to the civil war.

And yes I know most southerners didn't own slaves and most northerners didn't own factories. That's probably why both sides, starting with the south, had to rely on a military draft.
