WATCH: Trump supporters berate Mitt Romney, brand him ‘traitor’ on packed flight to DC

Senator Mitt Romney of Utah was harangued by a group of angry Trump loyalists, who branded him a “traitor,” while catching a flight from Salt Lake City to Washington, DC.
Video uploaded to social media on Tuesday purports to show the 73-year-old senator being confronted both while waiting to board the plane and while seated in the cabin.

In the first clip, a woman confronts the former 2012 GOP presidential nominee, who is seated at a gate in Salt Lake City airport. The woman asks why he is refusing to support President Trump’s challenge of the election results, while calling Romney “a joke” and a “disgusting shame.”

Romney urges the woman to put on a mask before gathering his things and fleeing to another part of the airport.

Romney did not endorse Trump's 2020 re-election bid, and he later claimed he did not vote for the outgoing president either.

In the second clip, a group of passengers begins chanting “Traitor!” and “Resign Mitt!” as they are seated in the cabin.

“We wanna know your connection to Burisma and Joe Biden. Your constituents wanna know why you are not going to certify the electoral college,” one woman can be heard shouting.

“Mitt Romney, you don't listen to your constituents,” she continued.

Romney previously criticized an investigation into Hunter Biden, President-elect Joe Biden's son, by the Senate Homeland Security Commission.

Hunter Biden had a position on the board of Ukrainian energy company Burisma while his father was vice president to Barack Obama. He is currently in the spotlight over alleged shady dealings in both Ukraine and China, as well as a subject of an ongoing federal investigation into alleged tax improprieties.

Romney has also opposed efforts to challenge the outcome of the 2020 US presidential election by some members of the Republican Party.

Meanwhile, thousands of Trump supporters have also flown to Washington, DC to attend large ‘Stop the Steal’ rallies, held on the premise that the US election was somehow rigged amid allegations of widespread voter fraud, on Wednesday.

A group of Senate Republicans, led by Josh Hawley and Ted Cruz, plan to challenge the election results on Wednesday, as Congress gathers to certify Biden’s victory following weeks of court cases and legal challenges.

I'm surprised he is out in public and flying commercial, not a private jet.

God Bless these courageous people for confronting this traitor.

I have never liked Mitt Romney. He walks around like some pious man, which I watched, up close and personal. He is nothing but a ravenous wolf who seems never to be satiated with what he has. He is the proverbial type person who has a love for money and craves power.

I predict that the full resources of the federal government will align with the airline to identify the hecklers.

At a minimum, lifetime travel bans on the participants.

There is surely a federal law that can be twisted to criminally prosecute them for something.

Coup de gras: I look for Trump or Biden to offer military air transportation for Mittens in the future just like Pelosi.

It was probably a politically calculated move on his part. He doesn't care if he gets berated by Trump supporters, because he knows the results of the election isn't going to change.

These videos would have been a lot more satisfying if he got tar and feathered.

So you think acting like a low IQ savage is a good way to convince people of your views? These chimpanzees are no more allies or freedom than Occupy Wall Streeters or Black Lives Matter traffic stoppers.

Normally I would agree but like the old saying what goes around comes around.

The country’s largest flight attendant unions on Wednesday expressed safety concerns over politically motivated disruptions on flights after a pro-Trump mob stormed the Capitol building, demanding that the results of the presidential election be overturned.

The unions’ comments came after at least two on-board disruptions on Washington D.C.-bound flights, including a Delta Air Lines flight carrying Republican Sen. Mitt Romney of Utah, during which some passengers chanted “traitor.” Delta said it was aware of the incident and that “our crew quickly engaged and resolved the issue.” A spokeswoman for the senator didn’t comment.

“The mob mentality behavior that took place on several flights to the D.C. area yesterday was unacceptable and threatened the safety and security of every single person onboard,” said Sara Nelson, president of the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, which represents some 50,000 cabin crew members at United, Alaskaand more than a dozen other carriers.

The riots at the Capitol “create further concern about [participants’] departure from the D.C. area,” Nelson said. “Acts against our democracy, our government and the freedom we claim as Americans must disqualify these individuals from the freedom of flight.”

On an American Airlines flight to Dulles International Airport earlier this week, passengers shouted and cursed at each other, forcing the flight attendant to turn up cabin lights that had been dimmed and ordered passengers to their seats, according to a video shared by Twitter user @MaranieRae who said she was on the flight.

American is reviewing the incident, said spokesman Curtis Blessing. “We applaud our outstanding crewmembers for their professionalism in de-escalating a tense onboard situation and getting our customers to their destination safely,” he said.

Julie Hedrick, president of the Association of Professional Flight Attendants, which represents American Airlines’ more than 25,000 flight attendants, said in a statement that the union is "incredibly concerned about recent politically motivated incidents on board passenger aircraft.

“Regardless of one’s political beliefs, the cabin of a commercial aircraft must, out of necessity, be a calm environment for the safety of everyone on board,” she said.

Flight attendant unions called for zero tolerance for such incidents. Interfering with the duties of a flight crew member is against the law and unruly passengers can be fined $25,000.

Airlines said they are taking several precautions to protect employees, including moving flight crews to airport hotels so they can avoid locations in central Washington D.C.

American Airlines is also not selling alcohol on board flights to and from the Washington D.C. area and has increased staffing at D.C.-area airports, American spokesman Blessing said.
