Mitt Romney Didn’t Know Rand Paul Was Running for President

Mitt Romney, who became president last week after his NCAA bracket demolished former President Barack Obama’s, was unaware on Fox News Sunday this morning that Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) was in the race for the 2016 GOP nomination.

“We’ll take what he says today [on foreign policy], and that’ll be the platform he runs with as a candidate for president, if he gets in the race,” Romney said.

“Well, no, he’s in the race,” host Chris Wallace said. “He got in last week.” Paul and Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) are the only two major candidates to have officially declared.

“I haven’t kept my scorecard as to who’s actually officially in, as to who’s just kind of in,” Romney said. If NCAA brackets are any indication, you can just sorta guess.

I could say a couple things about this, but I'm sure others here will say it anyway.

Overall Romney seemed pretty decent to Rand though.

Yes, and that's a positive. You would be amazed at how much stock Romney still has with the old guard. Like it or not, we have to win over at least a significant portion of that segment of the party to win.

I dont buy that for a minute. there are very few people who havent heard of him running this past week especially in political circles.. you mean to tell me the last republican nominee doesnt know whos running currently?? bs lol..

Pretty decent ? The only thing he said was giving him the benefit of the doubt, that's not very decent.

He said something along the lines of "he's not a serious candidate" with his last remark there. And I don't believe he didn't know, it's more likely that was deliberate.

Obviously just a slip up on Romney's part, it only made him look bad because he didn't remember Rand has already announced. To think it was anything more than that is a stretch.

Well to be fair, I am also running for President but you can't expect Mitt Romney to know that, either.

exactly the reason and only reason rand did that too

Rand's endorsement was a minimum to be in the game for this election. And to Romney's credit, he let Rand have a hearing with his donors and has been invited to his Utah retreat the past couple of years. But there is no chance of Romney endorsing Rand in the primary.

I have a really hard time believing Romney would be so unprepared for a Sunday show not to know Rand was running. It dominated the political news. I think it was likely a veiled swipe.

Republicans and libertarians need to be very careful what they say. The liberal media is going to find any chink in the armor, and people are best to keep their mouths shut rather than spotting the libs by five or ten points every time there is an interview.

His answer is just the usual bullshit you get from politicians. Platitudes with no meaning.
