To understand the depths of the current crisis, let’s go back to an apparently unrelated episode in economic thought: the socialist calculation debate. Starting in the 1920s, Ludwig von Mises, the leader of the so-called Austrian School of Economics, charged that socialism was unable to engage in rational economic calculation. Without market prices, he reasoned, no one knows how much economic resources are worth.

Ron Paul on WND. Mises in the NYT. Whats next Peter Schiff on Bloomberg TV?

George Mason

The author of the article is a proff at George Mason University - a hot bed of free market thinking.

Still, Von Mises in the NYT! And the Austrian school mentioned on Jay Leno! Students on college campuses talking about the Fed and marching for sound money!

What if we had an economic crisis and instead of the ideas of Keynes guiding the "recovery" we had the ideas of Mises guiding a real recovery? Ahhh, my most secret dream revealed for all to see.

Honestly I'm still shocked by the fact that the words 'Austrian Economics' was even mentioned in a presidential debate. I never thought I'd live to see the day! Now Tyler cowen writing sense in the nonsense times- amazing! I certainly never expected to see any even remotely correct economic thought come out of the Times!
Hey - at least the word is now out there, it will hopefully make it harder to move to socialism when the whole house of cards collapses, though I still fear most will call for more intervention after the economic collapse.
