Milk called best exercise drink

True, but milk is bad for you for reasons aside from its acidity. (it is a common allergen, for example) Besides, why would one want to drink another animal's breast milk?:eek::eek::eek::eek:

Same reason us humans eat another animal's brains, spleen, liver, muscle, testicles, tongue, eyeballs, skin, bones, eggs, etc.

It's good and good for you. Yum.

I make my own "sports drink". It's cheap, easy, and better for you than anything you can buy.

I usually just mix it up in a 2-liter soda bottle:

2 liters water
1 teaspoon unrefined sea salt (it's important to use a decent unrefined sea salt because it has all kinds of electrolytes as well as a lot of trace minerals that the body needs)
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
sweetener - about 5 tablespoons of cane sugar, or you can use stevia or whatever else you want
flavor - fruit juice (lemon & lime works well), a few scoops of frozen juice concentrate (read the ingredients, a lot of that stuff is sweetened with HFCS), or just a packet of unsweetened Kool-Aid

Mix it all up and put it in the refrigerator for a while... it can take a half an hour or so before everything dissolves and mixes properly.

I'm not a big fan, I prefer coconut milk over the other alternative milks.

There are different brands and flavors, you should try and find one you like. If you don't like any of them, you should figure out how to make your own fresh and make it how you want it. Hemp is pretty superior to coconut milk in nutrition.

Well I was speaking more towards flavor and texture etc. to which I prefer the coconut milks. But, my main use is in my coffee.

But I wouldn't be so sure about the hemp > coconut in terms of nutrition. Coconut has a number of unique properties and potential health benefits, so many that one might be able to write a book about it...oh wait, somebody already did. :)

Hemp is the most nutritional food source on the planet. It has the perfect balance of omega 3 vs omega 6 fatty acids. It kicks coconut's ass, trust me.

Does it have any/many medium chain fatty acids?

I'd go with a healthy diet could contain both products. :)

Ya, definitely. I try to use coconut oil, but I'm actually allergic to raw coconut milk. Not hemp milk, though.

Milk is a great post exercise drink if you're weight training.

A few years ago when I lifted weights 5 days a week, I would down a half gallon of skim milk after every workout. Probably a little overkill, but I gained a huge amount of strength and muscle during that time. Went from a L to XL in shirt size.

I've never had hemp milk but down some hemp oil every so often, I always keep some in the fridge.

Almond milk is my favorite. I drink it everyday. Very high in nutrients like Phosphorus and Vitamin E.

For those considering - or already drinking - milk, have you done enough research to know all about the reality of cow's milk? If you haven't read "The Milk Letter" you need to do that right now!

I did not read that whole thing, but I never drink milk. It is gross and it is not good for you.

I think it changes from person to person. My experience suggests it's good for me. Why do you say it's bad?

We do not need the calcium from milk. You could get enough calcium by eating the right veggies. We could be eating zebra milk and cookies or putting gorilla milk on our cereal. The only reason we drink cow milk as opposed to other animals is because cows produce a large quantity of milk, but are easier for farmers to house than elephants. It has nothing to do with health or nutrition. It's about what produces the most bang for the buck.

Also, it is a myth that you need milk to grow or that without milk you will have weak bones.

After looking at 34 published studies in 16 countries, researchers at Yale University found that the countries with the highest rates of osteoporosis—including the United States, Sweden, and Finland—were those in which people consumed the most meat, milk, and other animal foods.

Plus it is really fattening and tastes gross.
