Every headline I saw about his CNN interview claimed that he'd compared the gay "lifestyle" to drinking or swearing, evidence that he saw it as some sort of vice. Well … yes, a minister likely will see it that way, won't he? Watch the clip, though, and you'll see that he also compared being gay to liking classical music or opera, a "taste" he doesn't share and one he obviously doesn't consider sinful. Go figure that media coverage would omit the innocuous analogy the better to frame him as the tsk-ing Christian schoolmarm. Good catch too by Eddie Scarry in noting that Huckabee's description of being gay as a "lifestyle" isn't so different from former gay-marriage opponent Barack Obama's choice of words when addressing this topic. That's the second time today that a Republican's being kookified for using the same language as the leader of the Democratic Party.

Thanks for posting this. The real question seems to be is there room in the liberty movement for people who actually believe the Bible as written? I'm beginning to wonder about that. Even a "Well maybe you're wrong maybe you're right" attitude is not enough for some liberty-statists.

Another real question.

Does the "liberty movement" actually exist or is it a mirage created by idealist "buzz words" and copious posts at liberty themed websites?

To answer your question, I would say that if you really believe the bible as it is written then you have to accept "probably not" as an answer. Because the bible says it will get worse and worse and there will be less and less true believers and any "movement" primarily composed of people who don't accept all the scripture (which is probably every group in existence right now, unless the group has like 3 or 4 people) will by its very nature be hostile to true believers who take the Word at face value and don't go chasing after distilled false doctrine with "itching ears", as it says.

This might describe why the evangelical right is by and large so hostile to secular and secular-ish libertarians who don't believe the Republican party should be a mantle for carrying out what they consider to be God's message.

I think there is room in the liberty "movement" for assholes of all persuasions.

Of course there is. Because the Jesus advised the rich man to give everything up and he walked away "voluntarily". Jesus didn't follow him beating him over the head with the Bible and then had him arrested. As long as Christians understand choosing Christ is a choice, then their is room

This is true. Which is why I have no problem with the religious right
