<<Gravel took me over to a corner and quieted down. "I don't say this in public, but I'm more libertarian than Ron Paul. I took that article over to him this last week—we met for the first time. And the article's got that section with the top libertarian issues. Gambling, choice, immigration. Ron looks at the list and points at each of the issues. 'I'm not for that, I'm not for that, I'm not for that.' He was against half of the things on the list! And I'm for all of those things.">>

Did Mike Gravel Vote against bombing of Serbia in 1999?
Ron paul was the only soul gop member voting against it.

And socialism and government healthcare play into that Libertarian mindset how? As far as gambling goes...Ron doesn't do it, but I do believe he thinks it is none of the governments business...especially the Feds. I bet you Ron would stand up for Nevada's right to determine gambling legal.

Gravel is honest...but he is still a misguided socialist...end of story.

Mike Gravel is a tool and about as far from a libertarian as you can get. He just thinks this will get him some publicity.

Gravel was out of Congress by that time...he probably would have been against it in all fairness. He was a leading advocate against the Vietnam war. But we will never know because he didn't have the chance to vote. Would be an interesting question to ask him.

Who cares? I don't support Ron Paul because he's a libertarian, but because he's a conservative/libertarian. You take out the conservative part and often what you have left is an anarchist. I may be more libertarian than conservative, but I'll never lose my conservative way of thinking. Ron Paul is not right on 100 percent of the issues as far as I'm concerned, but he's right on like 99 percent of them, and his basic political philosophy mirrors mine. That's why I support him, not because he passes any libertarian "litmus test".

Well good luck Mike. I'm sure that someone has explained to him that his chances of getting the nom are pretty minimal because of his socialistic baggage.

And if he says he has changed his views, no one will believe him.

I just hope he doesn't snap when he loses the Libertarian nomination.

Gravel has issues. I used to respect him but the more I learn, the more I see him as just another tool.

paul is against gambling? right... i guess he is against prostitution too...

Paul strongly supports the right to choose to participate in gaming. He's been a big advocate in the fight for Internet poker rights, for example.

gravels an idiot.

Gravel is a liberal libertarian who believes in big government but also in personal freedoms (I don't think he fits the definition of "libertarian" at all). I think he sees big government as a wonderful tool to "give" us personal freedom.

Paul is a conservative libertarian who distrusts big government. He (rightly, IMO) sees growing government as threat to our freedoms.

I think it's night and day. It's hard (for me, at least) to see Gravel getting any support from anyone who believes in Ron Paul's positions. I know I won't.

Sorry Mike, I still prefer Ron Paul. I think you're okay but please don't go trying to convert Ron Paul's base by claiming you're more this and that than Ron Paul.

If you gave Gravel an enema, he could be buried in a matchbox.

(all credit for this witticism of course going to Christopher Hitchens, with modification for context.)

This is funny to me. These people still don't get it. They still think this revolution is made up of the same people that vote for Obama because he's black. He actually thinks any libertarian is going to vote for him? I don't get it.

"If Ron Paul could raise all that money with his libertarian message, you know, I think I could raise a lot of money."

Well at least he is being honest about the reasoning behind his new political affiliation.

You are something else Yongrel. You ganked this straight from Hitchens and his verbal raping of Falwell on Hannity.

I want to be a fan of yours, but the lack of creativity and one-liners are getting old.

While it's true he may be more socially libertarian, economically he is most certainly a Fabian-Marxist.

Mea culpa. Attribution added.
