The Midwest Leadership Conference – the biennial gathering of conservative and Republican activists and leaders from**Ohio, Missiouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Wisconsin, North Dakota, South Dakota, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois and Minnesota – just concluded its 2011 meeting in Bloomington, MN (a southern suburb of Minneapolis best known for the Mall of America).

The proceedings had a wide variety of keynote speakers – including Michael Reagan, son of the 40th President – and, in a first, one presidential candidate, Herman Cain, who followed Reagan via Skype. *Projected at the crowd via the big-screen TVs in the Grand Ballroom at the Bloomington Doubletree, Cain talked ran down the list of crises facing this country – culminating in the greatest crisis of all, a leadership crisis.

And then, the conference concluded with its first-ever straw poll.

And here are the results, in ascending order:

0.2% Johnson
0.9% Huntsman
2% Santorum
3.3% Gingrich
4% Rick Perry
10.7% Paul
11.1% Romney
12.2% Bachmann
52.6% Herman Cain!
Herman Cain’s skype address earlier today seems to have paid off.

Hey let me give you the anti-establishment spin to that.

SInce cain got 52% of the vote.. obviously this is a meaningless poll... :D

I'm assuming the news is going to make this one a big deal since Ron Paul didn't win?

I'm really starting to get disconcerted with this "leadership" meme.

It'll be a cold day in hell, the day I need one of these political sluts, who couldn't lead a bunch of drunken sailors to the whorehouse, to "lead" me anywhere.

"I don't want to run your life, I don't have the authority to and wouldn't want to even if I did." - Ron Paul

spot on. it seems that the GOP strategists are playing off the lack of obombya's accomplishment and making it seem as if they've actually accomplished anything other than status quo hackery. especially Cain.

on a side note: i'm so tired of hearing "he's a newcomer to politics". bullsh*t!!! though he hasn't held an elected office, the man has been involved in politics for a while. one doesn't "magically" or "randomly" get appointed to be the head of a federal reserve bank. think about it, people!

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Anti Federalist again.

Cain does organize for these things but being a safe 'third choice' he isn't busted for it. Boy does he do it, though. And we didn't compete. But it is a little straw poll, not a big one, which is why we didn't compete. I don't really want to give it more media than it will get on its own.
