This is big news here in Seattle.

Redstone sells Midway for $100,000 // News

This will affect many people. I have many friends working in the gaming industry so we will see what happens to them.

My guess is the guy who bought it is a corporate raider of some sort, because Midway has a great deal of debt it would be hard to do a turn around.

I wonder how many big companies are going to go under here in the near future like this?

Huh... I haven't heard of Midway for years... Figured they had been liquidated into another company.

No they have been producing many computer games. The Mortal Combat Series and Unreal Tournament are two well known games.

The reason I find this odd is that gaming and entertainment industries are generally well shielded from poor economic times.

Didn't know they were in Seattle now - they used to be in Chicago at least throughout the 90's - I remember the Mortal Kombat arcade era well, and actually I purchased Unreal Anthology this year

No they aren't really here, at least the main headquarters. There is a subsidiary of them called Surreal Games, plus many other feeder companies.

Midway struggled to make money even in the best of times.....kind of reminds me of GM and Chrysler. Good riddance to Midway. It would have been dead a long time ago if Sumner Redstone hadn't kept sinking money into that piece of crap bidness.

Long live Take-Two!

Ha yes, take two.

One problem in the industry right now are companies like EA games.

Bethesda is always a good investment. :D
Relic, Take Two also good buys.
Interplay may make a rebound if they can pull off a good fallout mmo.
i think they have 3 more years to complete it before the lisense goes back to bethesda.

EA has become to "corporate" and now every franchise they buy they turn the next game in line into shit! IE, the Command and Conquer , SimCity, and Need for Speed series. I hate EA and the more disappointments turn more hardcore gamers off to them.

And hey my hundredth post!

I do love Nintendo - one of the best trades I've ever made . I bought stock the day theyy announced Zelda twilight princess was being pushed back - this was when it was still coming out for gamecube and Wii hadn't been made public. they say you never pick a bottom but i did that day
