Bentivolio, a high school teacher and veteran from Milford, rallied the crowd, especially when he held up a copy of the U.S. Constitution and called it the owners manual. He pledged to serve no more than three terms in Congress, introduce term limit legislation and would post his votes online like U.S. Rep. Justin Amash, R-Cascade Township.
He decried out-of-control government spending: "I'm going to Congress so I don't spend your money," he said.
Turning to notes, he criticized what he called the 10 to 15 GOP "party bosses" who anointed a candidate in a "smoke-filled room," in reference to Cassis' write-in launch Thursday with the backing of Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson and others.
"It's a slap in our face!" yelled back one tea party member.
