The snow is actually the worst part! My sign disappeared last month...somewhere under a big pile of plowed and packed snow. I will find it in May. (sigh) Can't see bumper stickers 90% of the time either.
I have not seen any signs or bumper stickers. NONE. People here do NOT have a clue who Ron Paul is. (Well, other than those I've spread the word to.) I have seen no ads, heard no ads.
I did not get a phone call from Mrs. Paul. The Michigan campaign people are concentrating BTB. The iron ore interferes with AM radio and I don't have a cell phone because they don't work very consistently.
The miners are in the Steelworkers union. I will check on if there is a way to advertise, though I have doubts. The guys in the woods are not union for the most part. There are some lumber and timber type monthlies, but you will capture more attention with all of them through the radio ads.
There's been rumor of pro-Paul rumblings within union ranks strictly because of his stance on NAFTA. Now, I'm not a huge single issue fan, but hear me out.
1) Dems killed themselves in MI, so the unions here have no voice this primary season.
2) Ron Paul has a positive stance on NAFTA in their views
3) They are not opposed to making a single issue statement.
If we could even pull 20% of the union folks here, we own Michigan.
As I said before, WJR is broadcasts very far, but is centered in Detroit area. Most of the population is south of the thumb, and most of the people are in the southeast around Detroit (not IN Detroit, it is a @hithole).
I really think Michigan can be won. The job market is horrendous right now, and Ron Paul is the only sensible candidate on the economy. With the exception of Detroit, I do not think there are huge portions of the state reliant on handouts. Farm subsidies exist, but nothing like in Iowa. I used to hear people say that Wayne County Michigan (near Detroit) was the bellweather county for the nation. Don't know how true that is now.
My friends in Michigan seem to be making good progress at least in their local circles, and we all saw the University of Michigan efforts and rallies. We need this state!
