Mexico Discharges 143 million Gallons Raw Sewage into Tijuana River, Shutting Down Calfornia Beaches

The Tijuana River Runs from Tijuana north across the border into California and discharges into the Tijuana National Wildlife Estuary in California and then into the ocean. Mexico discharged 143 million gallons of raw sewage over 18 days into the river. US officials are saying Mexico did it deliberately.

massive sewage spill from Mexico's Tijuana River that polluted miles of coastland and shut down beaches in Southern California is under investigation by federal authorities.
U.S. officials have said the spill that caused about 143 million gallons of sewage to leak across the border was deliberate ...

FFS, no WE don't.

The spill is believed to have occurred during repairs to Tijuana's sewage system.

U.S. officials, including Imperial Beach Mayor Serge Dedina, believe the spill was deliberate to cut corners during repair work on a sewer pipeline in Mexico.

Despite high tensions between Mexico and the U.S. after Donald Trump promised to build a border wall, authorities do not believe the spill was politically motivated.

'It was intentional,' Dedina told Reuters. 'The big picture is we need to work to support Mexico's effort to improve the sewage infrastructure system in Tijuana so this doesn't happen again.'

This is a long term problem after a big storm comes through. The US even helped build a water treatment plant in Mexico to treat water before it is released into the Tijuana River. I am far enough north of there it doesn't effect me. But even in the US, the rain washes chemicals and things into the water so it is normal to suggest people stay out of the water a day or two after a storm.

The Mexicans deliberately release raw sewage after a big rain? Who'da thunk it?

This is an excellent training opportunity . The EPA has SWAT Teams , instead of using them on american miners etc they can release them on mexican sewage treatment workers in mexico in the plant the us built .

All they have to do is build a wall. Once Mexico builds canals so that the sewage ruins beaches on both sides of the international border, a seawall will also need to be built. Tax the money people send from CA to Mexico to pay for the wall, and 2nd wall, if needed. This is too easy.

I have been to 2nd and 3rd world countries, and by far Tijauna was the nastiest city that I've visited. It highlights the worst of Mexican andd United States culture.

Never been, never will.

I've found most of the border towns to be like that. Gotta get around 700 miles south of the border to see what Mexico is really like.
