CHUCK TODD: The establishment, AKA, donors, they want one of those three [Jeb Bush, Mitt Romney, Chris Christie]. The grassroots: they’re not interested in any of those three. They’re very unpopular with the people who actually vote in Republican primaries, the people that vote in Iowa and New Hampshire and North Carolina. There’s a real disconnect between the mega-rich guys who are backing the Republican Party — they want a Jeb [Bush], they want a [Mitt Romney] again. They’ll even accept a [Chris] Christie, though I think he is a sort of lower third.

They’re afraid of what the grassroots might select, whether it is a Rand Paul, a Ted Cruz, whatever…

Right now, I think it is all over the place. Believe it or not, after Rand Paul — right now Rand Paul, we don’t have a front-runner, but in NASCAR terms, he’s in the pole position, he’s earned that right, he’s sort of the leader. He leads the polls in Iowa, he leads in most polls…

Huck is leading Iowa and Bush is leading NH and nationally. Todd is just trying to push a narrative. He may be right that Paul is having a hard time with the establishment, but who the hell didn't know that?!

Shows, sadly, how large of an influence the nursing home/bible thumper crowd still has in this party. And to think they call themselves conservatives... SMH

I for one have no problem with some talking head unrelated to Randal or conservatarianism going on Meet the Press and telling their viewers that Randal is leading in the important polls and has the pole position. true or not. Say it enough and it becomes true as people like to support winners.

Yes, and unfortunately the reverse is true too, as we saw in 2008 and 2012 -- keep repeating that someone has "no chance to win" and nobody will vote for them.

But one must wonder why Mr. Todd is saying this. He's not stupid. And I don't have any reason to think his network wants Rand to be President.

Hey guys. Long time lurker, second time poster. Starting reading this forum in the lead up to the '12 election, enjoyed the links to the OK and NV primaries and other related topics.

Are we going to see the same level of support and grassroots organization for Rand? I remember feeling kind of sad that I was sitting on the sidelines as a spectator during 12, and would like to be involved this time around. Although I'm not totally on board with the idea of representative government, I think it would be fun to work with people who are closer to my end of the political spectrum, and to try to convert some of the statist zombies out there.

Very good point. In both '08 and '12, every time I talked up Ron Paul with someone, I would invariably get the response of, "Well, I like the guy, but I'm not going to waste my vote in the Primary because he has no chance of winning..."

Gaaah!!!!

First of all, welcome! Glad you're here!

As for Rand, if you've been lurking here for the past few years, you'll have noticed that Rand doesn't really get the same level of unqualified support that everyone here felt for Ron during the last two election cycles. Rand tends to be a little too close to the "establishment" for some people's taste, and is generally willing to compromise in cases where Ron would have refused. Others argue that Rand has a better chance of winning that Ron ever did for those exact same reasons.

One thing is clear: We're not even at the beginning of the '16 race yet. There is a lot of time to do your own research, come to your own conclusions, polish your own arguments and talking points and figure out exactly how, where and when you might like to participate.

I hope you stick around. The fun is just beginning! :)

I was literally in the same boat as you in 2013 in the sense I heard about the site, didn't get involved, also didn't even get to vote for Ron in 2012 due to being a registered Democrat in a closed primary state. But when it comes to Rand here's still plenty of time and if you want there's a true shot at not only taking the nomination but the whole thing. LikeKCIndy said...think it through and lets get it poppington!

IN LIBERTY!

Chuck Todd works for NBC. NBC's poll has Paul tied with Bush as #1 in Iowa. NBC's last poll in NH had Paul in front.

Regardless, I'll take them saying Paul as much as possible when they're talking about front runners.
