David Brock blasts ‘political smutmongers,’ Rand Paul

By KATIE GLUECK | 3/25/14 2:32 PM EDT

Media Matters founder David Brock on Tuesday urged the end of “political smutmongers” and blasted the “right wing’s 20-year obsession with the Clintons,” singling out Sen. Rand Paul, as he described evolving from being one of the couple’s main antagonists to one of their fiercest defenders.

Brock spoke in Little Rock, Arkansas, the one-time home state of the ex-president and former secretary of state. His speech came as Hillary Clinton is considering a second run for the White House in 2016, and in it he skewered one of her potential GOP rivals, Paul of Kentucky.

...

Brock, 51, called for more thoughtful political discourse in the face of “slander sites,” according to the prepared remarks.

He blasted Paul as “the poster boy” for employing a “retro strategy.” The Kentucky senator, who has said he is heavily weighing a 2016 presidential bid, has charged on many occasions that the Democratic Party’s cries of a Republican “war on women” don’t take into account the Monica Lewinsky scandal that roiled Bill Clinton’s presidency in the 1990s.

“Those who want to throw stones ought to be very careful about setting the rules of the game in such a way that a candidate is responsible for the behavior of those closest to them,” Brock said. He pointed to the “secessionist rantings of a former [Rand Paul] top aide” and charging that the first-term senator “should answer for the anti-Semitic and racist material published by a newsletter” tied to his father, libertarian icon and former congressman Ron Paul.

The amount of butthurt in the air is palpable. Guess Randal really stung the dems with that whole Clintons war on women remark.

Huh. I thought that's what Rand Paul was teaching them about their 'war on women' propaganda...

These lefties STILL don't get it.

Its not about attacking Hillary because of the actions of those around here. Its about the hypocracy of the democratic party of accusing the republicans of this phony "war on women" while at the same time currently parading out a former democratic President who has acted in despicable ways toward them.

I didn't think Media Matters was formed to attack candidates.

' first-term senator “should answer for the anti-Semitic and racist material published by a newsletter” tied to his father...'

And there it is.

It shows that they're afraid of Rand, and think that he's got a good chance to be the GOP nominee. Brock is signaling to Rand and to Democrats what he will bring up if Rand continues to progress in that direction.

Ffs, not the newsletters, again, again, again.

I hope they ask him about it to his face -- I don't think that has happened yet. I predict Randal will put the questioner on the floor with his response.

I really though the Clintons could create and fund a better propaganda organ than this. And to think that they still maintain 501(c)(3) status as a nonpartisan organization?

Now that you've pointed it out - Yeah, that is what he will do! :)
He won't be as patient about it as Ron was.
Rather than worrying about it, I look forward to Rand putting the hypocrites in their places.

That's all this is. Rand acknowledging it this early would be a silly move, let them cry, try to find a good statist to go against him, but as long as it's still Hillary we still got a LOT of work to do.
