Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) is almost certainly going to run for President in 2016, and according to fellow Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell, he’s “almost certainly” going to help Paul run, if that should happen.

“We started off on opposite paths, but we’ve become great allies,” the Senate Majority Leader told CNN. “I’m a big fan of his. I think he’s a very, very smart, capable guy. I really admire him a lot, and we’ve worked together on a lot of things. And I’m going to try to be helpful to him.”

I don't remember the "almost" part in his statement of support a few weeks ago, before the election.

Can anybody track down the guy who ran the "Too Kooky for Kentucky" website and ask him if he will support Rand too?

Lol... What's the over and under until it becomes "most likely", and then "probably"? Then, "maybe" and "possibly", right before, "I would have if not for..."

He took that site down immediately after Randal won the primary and followed the GOP's lead and supported him completely. its one of those advantages of being a team player and not holding onto grudges.

Oh for Jesus' sake, where in hell did I put my waders... I'm about to drown in the stink.

He's going to. He can't walk back at this point. He is just leaving doors open for himself because in fairness, he IS the incoming Senate Majority leader and it wouldn't be good for Mitch OR Rand at this point for Mitch to be seen as simply a proxy for Rand's presidential run.

Wow.... that's a nice qualifier there Mitch. Who knows what back room deals went on with Rand and Mitch, email lists and donor lists, Jesse Benton, etc.... Mitch could be an ally or a serious enemy.

I got a bad feeling about this.

Is "almost certainly" one of those pesky oxymorons?

No. "Almost certain" means what it sounds like, IMO. You are close to certain but still not certain.

Do I trust McConnell? No, not exactly, though I do think Rand Paul can use him. But I don't see a problem with the phrase per say. Ironically enough, I'd say something similar, but from the opposite extreme.

Yeah I agree.

Hopeful scenario: the "almost" is just in case Rand would need to throw him under the bus.
Worse scenario: the "almost" is because he's planning on backstabbing.

Or it could just be that Randal hasn't yet announced/decided to run for president. It would be silly for him to be absolute when Randal isn't even a candidate yet.
