Some peole like this idea, my dad who is libertarian on domestic issues, thinks that its a good think that we still have troops in Germany and Japan to keep them from rising up again militarily.
Does your dad still think it is a good idea to keep troops in Germany and Japan if it means that the per capita share of the $10 Trillion national debt is approximately $30,000 and growing??? I would like to keep troops in every country in the world if it would ensure world peace but we can't afford it! The United States is essentially subsidizing the military responsibilities of Allies like Germany and Japan who can spend more to police their region of the world. World War 2 has been over for over 60 years.
People forget that England and France warred against each other for centuries and only made peace in the first half of the 20th century. However, you don't see the British keeping troops in France to make sure that France doesn't rise up militarily. It's time we start reducing our military footprint in Asia and Europe and let our Allies shoulder more military responsibilities. If a problem arises in the future, the United States will successfully deal with it like it did in WW1 and WW2.
