McCain-Palin: the next McKinley-Roosevelt?
Some thoughts about the Republican ticket of 2008
by Sonny Thomas / SonnyThomas.com - TheHMD.com

Though it has been 100 years since that ticket and not much longer since the assassination of Pres. McKinley which led to the rise of TR. Are we about to do it again?

Where TR said he would "speak softly and carry a big stick, and you will go far". Palin, or SP, says she's a pitbull with lipstick and is going far. With women voters and the general populus as well.

TR was a big reformer and corruption fighter as Gov. of New York after his election in 1898. By the 1900 election, he was more or less forced onto the McKinley ticket due to the Republican party boss to get him out of the state before he clean house completely! Gov. Palin shows a lot of the same signs and it has been hinted on a few programs that Palin might be a VP pick for McCain. Are we seeing history repeated?

There hasn't been a presidential VP that could field dress a moose since TR. SP can!

McKinley was a Civil War veteran, McCain was a Vietnam veteran. Both were much older men. Whereas, McKinley was shot, McCain might either still have cancer or it could come back. Or even fall under the sniper shot himself. In these interesting times, who could ever tell? Did anyone ever think that some kook would try to shoot Reagan in 1981?!

Not to mention the "war on terror". Radical muslims abhor any woman with prestige or power. They would really be livid with SP in office. Whereas Hillary might be judged as too soft, Palin might be judged as a hawk! However, most of us can agree that even though Reagan was concerned about war, he wouldn't hesitate to fight back if necessary.

SP wants to use America and Alaska's resources to help make us more energy dependent. Such as Brazil has done over the years. But not endanger the wildlife of Alaska. TR also set about a huge conservation system to keep as much of America's wildlife intact for future generations.

Yet, drilling is not the answer. Thanks to Carter not using our oil and draining the oil from the Mideast, we have this oil to tap. I know it was a bad trade off dealing with tyrants, dictators as well as corrupt regimes; but we've had 30 years of extra time saved on those resources. We need to tap but moderately. Or they'll be gone in a short amount of time as history has proven this time and time again. Laterally, we need to tap into the same great thinking minds and companies that can provide alternate energy. Fossil fuels are not the answer and have been outdated for some time.

Of course there's the far off possibility that if Palin ascends to the Presidency, that given her positive reviews of Ron Paul, he might become her VP pick or better yet, Treasury Secretary!!

Just a thought.

On the other hand, we know McCain is a CFR member. What will Palin bring? Even Reagan couldn't be elected w/o Bush, Sr. A 'former' card carrying member of the CFR. He 'resigned' from the CFR in 1979 prior to his run for office. As least from the public's view. But I haven't seen any evidence to the contrary if she has any CFR connections. So that's a good thing.

Perhaps SP will give us a 'Square Deal' with her energy policy and spur development and competition again. But not to the point where we have too many buckets in the well bleeding it dry!

So there you have it. Perhaps SP will be the new TR. Though some of us conservatives are not always too proud of TR's globalist ideas, he did make America a big leagues player. Maybe SP will help make America a more fair player and we can earn the respect of the world again. At least when Reagan was in office, he gave us our national pride back. I never felt as proud to be an American as I did under Ronnie! Clinton and Bush have really peddled backwards on that deal!

No, see. First they have to get into office and chances are slim on that front.
