Senator John McCain, the 2008 Republican Presidential nominee, took to the floor of the Senate today and staked out what will prove to be the latest in a series of increasingly hawkish stances he has taken on foreign intervention. Politico reports:

“Providing military assistance to the Free Syrian Army and other opposition groups is necessary, but at this late hour, that alone will not be sufficient to stop the slaughter and save innocent lives. The only realistic way to do so is with foreign airpower,” McCain, a Vietnam war veteran and the top Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee, said in a speech on the Senate floor.

“Therefore, at the request of [opposition forces], the United States should lead an international effort to protect key population centers in Syria, especially in the north, through airstrikes on Assad’s forces.”

McCain’s call for military action in Syria makes him the first politician in the United States to officially suggest intervening in the war-torn Middle Eastern country. He was also among the first to call for military action in Libya, despite having previously promised to secure military hardware for deposed Libyan Dictator Muammar Qadhafi.

McCain’s stance suggesting United States support for the Syrian rebels is likely to raise some eyebrows, given other allies the Syrian rebel force has picked up over the past few months. As the Blaze itself reported last month, Al Qaeda operatives have joined the Syrian rebel force in protest of the “secular” Assad regime.

Lindsay Graham already called for a no fly zone there, and the two are soul mates.

It's quite clear that John McCain is still bitter from his time spent as a POW.

Is it too late to give him back to the Vietnamese?

"Eh, here, this one isn't ours. Actually, we don't even know where you guys found him."

Haha!

I have an off-topic question. How is Israel our "Ally?"

If we are ever attacked, will Israel come to our defense? I don't recall that ever being the case. Don't "allies" fight alongside each other during wars? (like Britain, for example).

Allies don't attack allies' ships and gun down their soldiers in the water, either.

I'm kinda uneducated here, but don't Israel sell us weapons and help train our military? (Especially via Krav Maga?)

On the imperialism war, they also serve as territory in the middle east to help America with military dominance. It's pretty much where they can set up bases to their heart's content and maintain Nuclear Deterrence.

To be fair, I'm sure Israel does SOMETHING for us. But I'm kinda disturbed how much they prioritize a completely other country over our own. I like Israeli culture just as much as the next guy (And I AM Jewish!), but I have to ask where their loyalties are?

The US Senatorial meat puppets can bang their war drums all they want with well conjured-up propaganda, fear, human rights, etc. Nothing is going to happen with RUSSIA & CHINA backing the Syrians. Russia has a ship docked
Assad met a senior Russian politician in Damascus, who reiterated Moscow’s backing for his self-styled reform program and spoke out against any foreign intervention in the conflict, Russian and Syrian news agencies reported.
China accused Western countries of stirring up civil war in Syria and two Iranian warships docked at a Syrian naval base, underscoring rising international tensions over the crisis.

Yeah i am following the news regarding that, they are still been held.

One has to wonder if this civil war would have ever been fought...had the CIA and US military not encouraged it.

For quite some time Israel and Hawks in Washington haven't cared for Syria...is it any surprise that a rebellion should spring up against their leadership?

An FBI whistle-blower has revealed that the US has been smuggling arms into Syria for their rebels through the Turkish military base of Incirlik and had been training Syrian rebels in the Turkish city of Hakkari since May.

:(:( We're being lied to go again for yet another CIA coup. What's disturbing are the reports that some rebels and Islamic elements are killing civilians on purpose to frame the government (not that the government is without some guilt in this matter).
