Mayor Has His Dogs Shot and Killed By Cops Raiding His House

They can't come up with a warrant, surprise surprise.

Drug sniffing dogs smelled the pot in the package all the way back in Arizona, and the cops took it from there, and delivered the drugs to the mayor's house. The mother in law told the "delivery man" to leave it on the porch, presumably because it was 32 pounds and too heavy. The family didn't know what it was. When the mayor got home and took it in, he never even opened the box. He figured his wife ordered something for their garden, he said.

Friends of the family mentioned that this is becoming a fairly common delivery technique for drug dealers. They send a shipment to a random house, expecting the occupants not to be at home. Then the people who actually ordered it wait for it and steal it off the front porch. If this kind of sting happens tho, for one, its patently obvious by all the black armoured cars and SWAT vehicles in the area, and two, just a cost of doing business for the dealers. They lose a shipment, big deal.

I'm sure this happens every day. This is unfortunately newsworthy because the guy is THE MAYOR, and - I have to say it - white. Do you think if he had a different skin color he'd have been given any credibility when he says "Those aren't mine." The war on drugs is a very racially oppresive institution. But anyone could send you a box and the same thing would happen. Nothing went wrong here as far as those cops are concerned, that's the scary thing. This is standard operating procedure. This is America?!?

Dude, sorry we killed your dogs, but that's just how we roll. You understand.

So let's get his office address and send him a copy of RP's book and a copy of A Nation of Sheep. If someone will get me the addy, I'll send the books along with a very nice letter.

total moron

when someone like you who is a complete moron (i say this to you as a ron paul supporter who has no idea what ron paul's philosophy is) are you aware of the fact that you're a moron? And if some is a moron, how do they know if nobody tells them?

When was the last time you have actually read a book? High school?

a few scattered thoughts on this:

The cops involved need to do real hard time for this. I dont think they will at all because this country just does not take seriously violations of the bill of rights.

I hope the mayor cleans house inside and out on this police dept.

Sad but I think more people are mad that 2 dogs died then the death of these two american citzen's Rights at the time.

I dont trust the FBI probe that will be launched. But heads need to roll and "no-knocks" outlawed by the states (reguardless of what the hell the 9 people in black robes think about it)

The cops won't be punished any more than they were punished in Chicago or Atlanta, to cite two recent cases.

The mayor can't fix this; it was county cops, not city. The city wasn't even informed the county was going to execute the raid.

No-knocks will never be outlawed; it's too late for that. The only way no-knocks will stop will be if those who go out on assignment quit coming back.

This is yet another story representing the lunacy of the drug war...

The Mayor of Berwyn Heights in Maryland’s Prince George’s County had a rude awakening. Apparently, a 32 lb. bag of marijuana was sent to his house addressed to his wife. A SWAT team busted down his door, shot and killed his two black labs, and held him for questioning for hours. The Mayor claims he has no idea where the pot came from. He also said that if the police would have just knocked, he’d have let them in.

Would a normal arrest of the mayor while somewhere outside the house, followed by a regularly executed search warrant (knock, if someone is home, ask to be let in, pick the lock if need be) be too 'boring' these days? Why the movie action ? Was the mayor considered armed and dangerous prior to entry? Is research of who lives at the location deemed too time consuming?

Anyone who wants a taste of door busting, pet shooting, people shoving/tying/gun pointing action because of an existence of a naturally occurring plant can join their local police force and satisfy their urges.

If I wanted to abuse people legally and shoot their pets, I would just join SWAT on their door busting missions in their crusade against a natural plant.

It has nothing to do with drugs, although that's the "surface" excuse.

This, and hundreds of other "raids" just like it, every day, is to let us peons know, exactly, who the boss is.

They were black Labs for christ's sake, one of the most docile and friendly breeds out there.

I'm not going to say what I really think, it would get me banned.

Arrogant, miserable bastards.:mad::mad::mad:

Check out this map. Below is a copy from a few months ago.

I guess that puts the rumor to rest that mayors are invincible and the police are their lapdogs.

However, it leads credence to the theory that the police consider themselves beyond the control of outside forces.

This crap wouldn't be so bad if the spokespeople would get up and say "Oops!" Insteadm they stand up and insist that everything went as it should, and all the police actions were proper.

Having two family pets shot in their own home, one while running away, is wrong.

These are the people that are supposed to protect us? We the people have to pay consequences for our mistakes. The police don't.

It gets better. There's a ring of dealers getting pot delivered to random homes in the area. The homeowners don't know anything about it - the package gets left on the porch and the dealers drive by and pick it up. The police were fully aware of that.

All they had to do was wait to see who picked up the package. It's possible the Mayor or Mrs Mayor could have picked it up, at which point the police could have walked up and arrested that person. The package would have been grounds to get a search warrant.

But hey, what's the point in having millions of taxpayer dollars in assault armor if you're not allowed to use it?

The police had intercepted the package way back in Arizona. They made it pretty obvious that it had been compromised and was going to be a sting. All the real dealers had to do was not show up.

I love that the cops are being honest about this and not apologizing. They are basically not hiding the fact that yes, this is how we operate. You got a problem with it?

The mayor does and gets that lots of others are not given community support or the benefit of the doubt like he has. He has called for a full investigation and it looks like he's getting one.

So cops can use force to enter your house and shoot your dogs and then say "sorry we made a mistake" but if you kill a police dog that is chasing you down and trying to maul you they charge you with killing a police officer.

I fucking hate this place. I think it's pretty clear that cops and the laws they choose to enforce are only their to protect themselves, not every day shit heads like me.

From the WaPo article at LRC Blog

Spokesmen for the Sheriff's Office and Prince George's police expressed regret yesterday that the mayor's dogs were killed. But they defended the way the raid was carried out, saying it was proper for a case involving such a large amount of drugs.

Sgt. Mario Ellis, a Sheriff's Office spokesman, said the deputies who entered Calvo's home "apparently felt threatened" by the dogs.

"We're not in the habit of going to homes and shooting peoples' dogs," Ellis said. "If we were, there would be a lot more dead dogs around the county."

Arrogant fucking pricks.

Black labs?
Lol i can see why the deputies would feel threatened

A saw a black lab lick a man to death once
It was gruesome!

The mayor should seu
5 mill a lab
