Hello all, I'm a new resident of Laurel and I'm trying to get a handle of Maryland RP politics. Here's what I've gathered as far as the Republican nominees for the US house race:

1 – SUPPORTS WAR (strongly) – Andy Harris
2 – RON PAUL REPUBLICAN – Richard Pryce Matthews
3 – UNKNOWN – Thomas Harris
4 – RON PAUL REPUBLICAN – Peter James
5 – RON PAUL REPUBLICAN – Collins Bailey – My district
6 – SUPPORTS WAR (with reservations) – Roscoe Bartlett
7 – RON PAUL REPUBLICAN – Michael Hargadon
8 – SUPPORTS WAR (with reservations) – Steve Hudson

Andy Harris and Roscoe Bartlett are the only two in districts with fairly equal Democrat/Republican spread. (However both aren’t RP Republicans)
Richard Pryce Matthews of District 2 is the only one with a slim chance based on historic election results that are ‘only’ 2:1 Democratic. (However he is a RP Republican)
Peter James is the only one not facing an incumbent.

It seems we need to have a Ron Paul Republican nominee for districts 1 and 6 in 2010. We need to throw our biggest support towards Richard Pryce Matthews for the 2008 election.

I would love more information on how to get involved. I’m working to get involved in the Prince George County Republican Party. I hope to talk to some Marylanders for RP soon!

For Immediate Release

Ron Paul Endorses Peter James for Congress

Today, presidential candidate Ron Paul annouced his
endorsment of Peter James for Maryland's 4th Congressional
District Race.

"Peter James is our Republican candidate in Maryland's 4th
Congressional District. Peter faces a special election on
June 17, which provides a unique opportunity for us to pick
up this seat. There will likely be low voter turn out, so
it is absolutely essential that Republicans, and
liberty-loving independents and Democrats, go out to vote
for Peter. Time is short and this election is rapidly
approaching, please do what you can to help Peter today."

-- Ron Paul

James has received the Montgomery County Republican Central
Committee's endorsement and hopes to receive both the
Prince George's endorsement and the Maryland Republican
Central Committe's nomination in the next few days.

James said, "When elected on June 17th, I will be the first
Ron Paul Republican to take office beside Dr. Paul. The
revolution has just begun."

Have you contacted Bailey? I'm sure he'd love volunteers. I'm on Mike Hargadon's committee in District 7. The RP Republicans are working hard here in MD, but it's gonna be a tough fight. I agree that Matthews probably has the best chance, but we're not gonna give up the fight. Also, if you're in Prince George's County and want to get involved immediately, you might consider contacting Peter James to help out with his special election next month. If we can really GOTV, he might be able to pull off a surprise upset, just based on historically low voter turnout for these special elections. (I'm pretty sure District 4 extends into PG County, which is why I mentioned this. if my geography is off, then never mind...)

How can you just throw out a guess like that

I have seen several people suggest the mathews has the best chance in Maryland.

If you merely look at voter registration that might be so.

But you should look at all the factors.

Collins has name recognition since he has been an elected official for many years.

In distirct 4 I am in a special election with recent history of low voter turn out. & to 11 percent. This means I need 1/4 the number fo votes matthews will need.
~15K to 28K depending on turnout and the number of swing votes I get.

I am spending full time on my campaign. I have full time campaign manager. Michael Kraemer. Michael ran the field operations for Ron Paul's North Dakota race. North Dakota accounts for 6 of Ron Paul's 14 national delegates !!!

Democrats in my district hate the bankers more than they love big government.
I have Ron Paul's official endorsement and donations are begining to arrive from around the country.

I ran and won a contested primary against 3 opponents.

I am doing fundraising mailers and direct mail to the voters that actualy vote in low turnout elections.

My special election will be over before the other 3 even get started.

So not that the other 3 candidates need support. My campaign is currently the most active as we have an election in 5 weeks.

Please go to the web site to donate. www.peterjames08.com.

I need a .NEt programmer to work on the new web site.

Peter James has posted on this forum, he is a Ron Paul Republican.

Richard Matthews posts on this forum also. I have been posting for over a year. We all need volunteers and money. James needs a quick infusion soon as his special election does present a unique opportunity of low turn out.

However, in the November general, I do believe that my district presents the best possible demographics out of the 4 districts that we have won primaries in. Secondly, my Democrat incumbent has given us two issues to present to the electorate. He voted for the reauthorization of the patriot act, and has voted for most every Iraq war funding bill.

With the support that was raised for Ron Paul this year, each of these races should expect to raise at least $50k - $100k from the community, regardless of the "chances". How much did we raise for Ron Paul? What where his chances? With a little bit of campaign cash comes the ability to run a respectable campaign. In all of these districts, the ability to run a funded competitive campaign will be just the shock to the system that is needed to gain us a large voice in the State GOP for years to come. This is what we are trying to achieve nationally, and we have a large opportunity to do just that in this state.

I respectfully disagree. Just because someone is an RP candidate, does not mean he or she can "expect" to raise at least $50-100k, that's ridiculous.

If the person is a good candidate, knowledgable on the issues, a good person, forthcoming about finances, has a plan, has support, works hard and has decent chances, then they are worthy of our support.

We are not an ATM and I don't want anyone throwing away their money or watering down this movement with sub-par candidates. By getting guys like BJ through the primary, we have become stronger. If we got some closet racist or nutjob through a primary with sheer dollars or force, we become weaker and start dividing.

We can and should look at all the aspects that go into a successful Congressional/Senate/political race and not just throw money at anyone who says the name "Ron Paul."

I agree with everything you have said! Commenting on the Maryland races, Collins Baliey, Mike Hargadon and Peter James, I personally know and all qualify for support using the criteria that you just mentioned above. I will submit myself, Richard Matthews, as someone who also deserves the support of the community.

Please research us, vet us, and support us. We have a chance to make a much larger impact than simply one or two races this year.

I will probably be donating money to the 4 Ron Paul Republicans in Maryland, because you guys are in for some intense brawling from what I can tell.

Peter James...it seems like you're running a very good campaign based on what you posted in this thread. I wish you all my luck, and I'll try to get in a donation soon.

Please contact myself or Peter James to help on his campaign. If you reside in PG county, you may be in Peter's district. We face a special election on June 17, 2008. I can be reached at 240-498-4045 or contact Peter directly at 301-916-5722. Thank you.
