Mark Shuttleworth (Ubuntu Linux Founder) Lambasts Bernanke

As a long time Ubuntu user I'm surprised that Mark comments on economic issues in USA (well, I've never heard about him doing that). A very nice surprise indeed.

Ubuntu has saved me and made me realize the joys of computing again.

As a *nix user for the past 9 years I think it would be cool but I don't think most Americans would even care let alone know who they are unless of course they are geeky. And as OP pointed out neither Mark or Linus is American. But feel free to email Mark, I've done it in the past and got a response from him...Linus is a different story.

Slashdot.org (new for nerds) did a poll a few months back and the breakdown was something like this:

42% Liberal
40% Libertarian
18% conservative.

that's about eight times more libertarians than in the general population.

Yeah, Mark is pretty 'open' to the public. I remember he came to my country some time ago and had a beer with a few geeks on some amateur conference. He was just "normal" guy. I just can't imagine e.g. Bill Gates doing so :) But as plb said, people living outside of the Linux world (99,99% of people in USA/world) have NO CLUE about Mark or Linus. Heck, most of them don't even know their long time congressman and presidental candidate Ron Paul!

Well, I posted a comment on the blog entry, but it is still in moderation.

ubuntu linux is amazing. this post is coming thanks to it ;). the whole ubuntu philosophy is very much in line with the campaign as well. "humanity toward others". i've always thought of this as a sort of open source campaign.

Yes, but let's not forget the rest of the open source community. Ubuntu is based in the most part on Debian. Heck, Mark was a Debian developer himself! Open source is a wonderful thing (regardless what distribution label it holds, if any). It even gave me my job, knowledge and tools :)
