Mark Levin: "Ron Paul is different than Rand Paul"

It's frustrating to see Rand Paul advancing politically and then watching the libertarians go into self-destruct mode and shoot everyone in the foot.

Some people's desire to be part of a super exclusive club trumps their desire to see their political ideology advance.

I've never heard Justin Amash say anything, or cast any votes, that suggested that America should help Israel attack any other country.

Rand Paul's last name is irrelevant to me. It is making other people give him a pass in areas they shouldn't.

I view anyone who supports preemptive war of any kind as being a hawk to a lesser or greater degree.

As I recall, it had to do IF ANOTHER COUNTRY ATTACKED ISRAEL. It ain't going to happen.

As soon as you stop trolling Rand. :)
Not trolling Rand, Missy. I'm all on-board the Rand Express. You didn't read my post from a few days ago? If you didn't, I'm going to be hurt.

I tend to agree with you on this. As critical as I've been of Rand for some of the things he's said (and may be again, if necessary), I'm coming around to the notion that he is the last best chance for a liberty candidate getting this close to the White House in my lifetime. He's not my perfect candidate (that would be his Father), but I've accepted the difference, as it is tolerable, whereas the possibility of President Rubio, Jeb Bush, or Hillary is not. It will be interesting to see how the establishment reacts to the possibility of a President Rand Paul as the time for the 2016 primaries grow nearer.

Somebody bookmark this post for when I get accused of being a "hater" again.

Lol, this was not about Rand and Ron. Levin's strategy is to become like Ron Paul in the eyes of the GOP. Levin has been saying for a while that he is the one who has made the Constitution popular again. He wants to define "libertarian" so broadly that he can also be the most prominent "libertarian" pundit. Look at how Paul Ryan and Sean Hannity were portrayed as "libertarian" because they read Ayn Rand. Look at Michelle Bachmann "reading Hayek at the beach". Levin wants to define himself as libertarian, but stops just short of applying the label directly to himself.

The popularity of Ron Paul's message was not lost. That popular message was ripe for copying and co-opting. Some neo-conservatives have evolved into teo-conservatives. They are taking on almost all of Ron Paul's talking points, with the exception of "isolationism", as they would call it.

IMHO, you analysis is incorrect. Levin hasn't been mugged by the national security state, so he only sees part of the picture. He hasn't made the connection with the domestic infractions and the TOTAL national security state, since he lived a large period of his life in the justice department (assistant DA to Edward Meese) during the contentious and frightening Cold War. He desires liberty as much as the next man, but he's not willing to cut off these remaining vestiges just yet. You can hear the sincerity in his voice when he fondly remembers the Reagan days when the GOP establishment did all in their power to cut off Reagan at the legs, but Reagan prevailed.

All we can do is hope and pray Rand does the right thing.. Hope dearly he's playin the game to win unlike Ron, besides what other choice is there?

I'm not sure which part you disagree with. It's clear that Levin is not a true libertarian, and he has not cut himself off from the security (and interventionist) State. He spoke in favor of the Amash Amendment, after the fact. He pays it lip service, but his sincerity is questionable. He supports the Constitution until it conflicts with his agenda. But he wants the popularity that comes from the majority of Ron's positions.

And just to be clear, people (for example, Hannity, Ryan, Levin) that say "I read Atlas Shrugged" carry no more weight than someone who read Moby Dick. It is meaningless, and is by no means a libertarian credential.

No, he's not a libertarian, but this fact doesn't alter his authenticity. He believes himself to be a real patriot, but due to his experiences, there are going to be conflicts between he and I. Secondly, he's never been a top drawer media personality or the kind of guy who gets paid several million dollars to spout party compliance (see Rush and Sean). Levin is what you would call neither libertarian nor establishment.

Hardly any difference between them on foreign policy. He isn't openly pursuing the eradication of entitlements, but hes strongly supported opting-out of social programs numerous times.

Ron's budget didn't touch entitlements and he didn't really speak in great detail on how to walk them back either. Rand on the other hand likes to delve into the details.

No kidding.

I know what Rand is doing, I just wish he didn't feel that it's necessary to hide whatever libertarian tendancies he has. I wish he would educate them so it wouldn't be necessary to play those games. Politics suck.

I'll bet that 1% quote gets dropped in sig lines once those who like Rand but not Ron start joining up on this board.

You're putting the cart before the horse. Allow Rand to get the biggest educational platform in the world (the Presidency) and then watch him go to work educating this country when hundreds of millions of people are watching and its broadcast on ALL network stations simultaneously. This is the only way it can be done after 100 years of progressives running the show and the public schools dumbing down the populace. Rand is attempting an end-around and circumventing the pubic indoctrination process of the public schools and using their own weapon of the media against them. It would take a century to do it any other way. The public has been so dumbed down that they were thoroughly confused by Ron Paul. We have to start somewhere and with someone who is a master communicator; enter Rand Paul. If everything works out, Rand will lay the groundwork for a Ron Paul type candidate in the near future instead 150 years from now. The trouble with your type (and I see this a lot) is that you guys demand instant gratification right now. You guys incessantly harp about ceiling of the Sistine Chapel not being painted to perfection, but don't realize the foundation hasn't even been poured.

For the love of God, people, stop talking about Mark Levin. Don't post. Don't comment. Please. Pretty please. Please do not start a thread that in any way involves Mark Levin, however tempting and relevant it may seem at the time.

My type? I'll let that go and just say that I have no argument with what you've written here. If you re-read the post to which you replied here, you will see that I said "I wish he would" and acknowledged that I realized it can't be that way. (Politics suck)

Yes. Yes, yes, yes. I'm tired of bumping another Mark Levin thread. After this post, of course. :)
