Marijuana Is Not Safe to Smoke, Researchers Say

^ or just about anything big pharma is trying to push. . .

Just like our airport security systems that were rolled out a few years back, there is a whole new industry surrounding the herb that is positioning themselves for the legal canna-business.

Many international players, maybe even some crossover from the TSA side of the game, YAY !

So yeah, more boogity, boogity from pharma and 'just say no ! ' folks, but also from the ones that are looking to get a stranglehold on the industry.

All is BS and sensationalism as anyone with little more than a somewhat long term memory and basic intelligence could surmise. It has been used for millennia safely, has been used heavily in recent history, safely.

But Lo and Behold, the power of the media to make the people cringe and cower waiting for a savior, or at least some regulatory monopoly to be magically conjured and paraded before there bedazzled eyes.

Maybe not so safe if you get busted.

There it is.... The most dangerous thing about marijuana is getting caught with it.

No one... and I mean NO ONE can tell me or convince me that inhaling a SMOKE of ANY KIND in to your lungs is healthy.

We can debate the effects of THC, but don't sit here and claim that inhaling ANY SMOKE (marijuana or not) is anything but dangerous

I prefer a vaporizer over smoke, but there are some times/locations where a joint or a pipe just work better.

Edibles for the fucking win. I love edibles. OMG

Well clearly you didn't read the article. It was mostly about the toxicity of the mold contents of cannabis on the lungs, not the effects of the smoke per say.

But if you want to go there, ok, great.. Three of the best swimmers I've known in my entire life - Michael Phelps (the greatest swimmer of all time), my friend who was a lifeguard in Hawaii and considered becoming a Navy Seal, and my friend who was a competitive swimmer and could swim from one end of an olympic sized pool to another, and back, without taking a breath.... all three smoke weed. Some of the greatest athletes in the world smoke weed. I've heard that nearly half the NBA and NFL toke up. My lungs as a child were weak as shit, now I would say they are actually stronger than your average person. I've been toking daily for 16 years, so I would actually argue that toking moderate amounts of high quality cannabis can improve the health of your lungs.

But when you say it is 'bad' for you, you have to ask to what degree? And could it possibly be good for your lungs? How do you know, are you just assuming?

I guess breathing is dangerous too? We inhale all sorts of crap when we breathe. Dust, pollen, mold spores, pollution, chemicals, etc..

Pretty sure most people inhale more smoke sitting next to a campfire for an hour than they do from taking a bong hit, and the campfire smoke is arguably worse for you. Should we not go camping anymore?

Cannabis helps relax the bronchial tubes in the lungs so you can breathe easier. Asthmatics in particular find relief from smoking cannabis, it is great at preventing asthma attacks.

Taking bong hits is like a breathing exercise, I can hold my breathe a lot longer now than I used to be able to.

Also, all the kids are dabbing nowadays anyway, so the smoke thing is a bit of a moot point.

When you dab, you are vaporizing just the medicinal oils and terpenes in the plant and not much else.

Interesting. I swam competitively in my youth up to my freshman year of college. 20+ years of weed smoking/vaping later I can still swim 50M on one breath. If I had access to a pool, and started swimming 2000+ meters a day, I could get that up to 100M within a few months.

On holding it in... I read (somewhere online) that there really isn't much benefit to holding in smoke hits more than 5 seconds, but there is great benefit to holding vape/wax hits for as long as possible. Have you found this to be true at all?

Edit: Bong hits are a good lung exercise as you have to overcome the resistance of the water.

Option two: Vaping

My weed doctor says not to hold in anything in, you should inhale, pause, and breathe out slowly, immediately. His reasoning is the temperature of the smoke or vapor. But that's just one opinion, and it is based on the smoke/vapor entering the lungs being too hot. There are ways to decrease the temperature of the smoke or vapor, such as running it through a water filtration device (bong, rig or bubbler), vaping at the proper temperature (making sure your nail cools down enough on your rig), and even if you are smoking a joint or pipe your can help regulate the heat of the smoke by mixing cooler air in with the smoke on your inhale. Then there is the fact that the smoke or vapor cools down over time while in your lungs - but I can see how if you inhaled something too hot you would probably want to exhale quickly rather than wait.

I would think holding it in would always lead to more contact, but I think the most contact occurs while the smoke is traveling through the lungs rather than when it is stationary.. So I think holding it in ends up with some diminishing returns but I don't think there is anything wrong with it as long as you are being cautious.

I haven't vaped herb but for vape juice.. I kinda prefer a warm vape.. top coil (preferably duel coil) device

yeah, so ?

Point is there are plenty of things that are harmful to people that people do everyday, sex, bacon, plucking nostril hairs, but we are allowed to make those decisions for ourselves.

Fuck the nanny state trying to control what we do with our own persons.

And you cant convince me that smoking truly organic weed is harmful in the least for my body.

Did I say anywhere in my post that I want government to regulate marijuana? People are free and SHOULD be free to do whatever they want. Edibles, vaping, etc... these are all well and good, but to me, inhaling smoke is not healthy.

This little tidbit that researchers " just discovered " is being used as a tool by big pharma and other groups to try and control access to cannabis.

Dont forget the paper industry strongly opposes marijuana legalization too. Oh and rope makers, hemp cloths and fabrics, oils, etc, none of which are intended for human consumption...
