Appleton, WI — Police shot and killed a man last Sunday at Jack’s Apple Pub. Jimmie Sanders, of Milwaukee, was fatally wounded when police arrived after someone at the pub called 911.

Sanders and Henry Nellum got into a fight. Nellum pulled out the gun witnesses said he brought with him to the bar. Nellum told police he was attempting to hand his gun to a friend when the fight broke out. But witnesses told police that wasn’t true.

Nellum allegedly put the gun to Sanders’ neck just before Sanders wrestled the firearm away from him. During the scuffle, the gun went off. That’s when police were called to the scene.

When police arrived, Sanders had just gotten the gun away from Nellum and, according to witnesses, this resolved the situation. However, seeing the gun in his hand, police opened fire on Sanders, killing him. Now, police have charged Nellum with attempted homicide but it wasn’t Nellum who killed Sanders. It was the Appleton police.

Protected and served by our stalwart heroes in blue.

Another glorious day in police state AmeriKa.

Are we great again yet?

This nearly happened to me in MPLS. Less dramatic, by all accounts: some guy tried to hit me with a bat, I took it. Cops show up and point a gun at my chest, while approaching me. The cop approached me, ie put himself within striking distance of a bat-justifying putting one in me. I walked away, lucky as hell. This guy will get no justice. I take it the cops here didnt even take a moment to appraise the situation.

No time for that, somebody (a cop) might not go home to his family if they took time to do that.

No good deed...

He wasn't a third-party. He wasn't saving the day. This wasn't a good deed. Getting into fights at bar is, just as in the old west, a fairly good way to get oneself killed.

Sorry, I have only so much sympathy to go around.

This guy will get no justice.
Well, yeah: he's dead.

The police clearly did not act in the best way, or even in a half-way reasonable way. Because of that, his family and relations should be able to get his weregeld.

Highly unfortunate that it will be paid by the taxpayers, and not by the families and relations of the slayers, as would be right.

My bet is they don't get squat.

A bar fight turned into a gun show. The one pulling the gun was disarmed. The one that was disarmed didn't make it into a gun show. Cops showed up and killed the one that disarmed the other that turned it into a gun show.
All assuming witnesses can be believed.
What is missing is what exactly did transpire between disarmament and death.
I'm not one to believe the cops.
Sometimes bar fights turn bad. Seems this one almost did. Then it didn't. Then it did.

Yep, that sums it up for me, too.

I wasn't meaning to be too harsh on the guy. Obviously he didn't deserve to die, and he certainly wasn't the wrong-doer. He just didn't seem to be acting the hero, either. Although, who knows: had he not disarmed the miscreant, maybe other bystanders would have been shot.

Probably the most likely. Although sometimes these wrongful death suits win. Usually when there's some White Guilt involved, though.

So if Jimmie Sanders is non-white, his family has a good, sporting chance at millions. If not, then not.

^^^^^^^^ Truth ^^^^^^^^

What were the Officers supposed to do here? Wait a moment to assess the situation before opening fire? Someone could have gotten hurt that way!
