This "new" divisive topic appears to be the most trending of the SOTU address contents.

Is it even possible to "fix" this, assuming this is a real issue? Seems to me the only solution is the Orwellian method of employers providing full bios to a gov't bureaucracy to determine what "equal pay for equal work" actually means and who gets paid what. Of course that's an authoritarian's wet dream. Every employer has to submit every new employee's full bio (gender, age, location, degrees and schooling, years of experience, IQ, etc) and Uncle Sugar then declares what they should be paid.

:shudder:

It's not a real issue. It is made up nonsense. Since it is all made up, it's impossible to fix. The people that believe this exists have to become sane in order for them not to believe in this fiction. Medical marijuana might be a good start for those crazies.

It's an issue, all right.

She looks good, she's bright. I worked with her. We accomplished a lot during the 36 hours straight that we worked together. She was on one "team", I was on another. We worked, her team and my team, we got a lot accomplished over the week end, when everyone else was at home.

Monday morning, here come the "others" that were at home in bed and doing family things all weekend.

We were excited, she and I accomplished a lot, we got the client and server from a million + line code project working together, as planned, as designed.

Hey, did you get "new curtains for your kitchen or something?" Said the asshole to the lady that worked with me all weekend.

She ended up, in the long run, as a vacuum cleaner for their dicks and pregnant, so her husband divorced her.

But, no, the government won't help her, I won't help her, you won't help her. She's on her own.

Workplace Salaries: At Last, Women on Top

http://content.time.com/time/business/article/0,8599,2015274,00.html

The fact that the average American working woman earns only about 8o% of what the average American working man earns has been something of a festering sore for at least half the population for several decades. And despite many programs and analyses and hand-wringing and badges and even some legislation, the figure hasn't budged much in the past five years.

But now there's evidence that the ship may finally be turning around: according to a new analysis of 2,000 communities by a market research company, in 147 out of 150 of the biggest cities in the U.S., the median full-time salaries of young women are 8% higher than those of the guys in their peer group. In two cities, Atlanta and Memphis, those women are making about 20% more. This squares with earlier research from Queens College, New York, that had suggested that this was happening in major metropolises. But the new study suggests that the gap is bigger than previously thought, with young women in New York City, Los Angeles and San Diego making 17%, 12% and 15% more than their male peers, respectively. And it also holds true even in reasonably small areas like the Raleigh-Durham region and Charlotte in North Carolina (both 14% more), and Jacksonville, Fla. (6%).

Men Suffer Brunt of Job Losses in Recession

http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB10001424052970203577304574272570149153010

The current recession is hitting workers in just about every industry, but men are taking a much bigger hit than women.

The 2.3 percentage-point gap between men’s June unemployment rate of 10.6% and women’s 8.3% rate is near the highest it’s ever been since records started being kept in 1948. The gap first hit two percentage points in March this year, and the 2.5 percentage-point gap in May was the highest ever.

The overall unemployment rate rose to 9.5% in June, from 9.4% in May. The economy lost a higher-than-expected 467,000 jobs in June.

“The gap between female and male unemployment has never been as large as it is now,” says Sophia Koropeckyj, an economist with Moody’s Economy.com.

It’s not hard to see why. Two male-dominated industries—construction and manufacturing—account for about half of the 6.5 million jobs lost since the recession started in December 2007, and both industries started shedding jobs even before that.

“Every industry is contracting, but these industries have taken the brunt,” Ms. Koropeckyj says. Given that men account for 87% of workers in manufacturing and 71% in construction, it’s not surprising that the unemployment rate for men is rocketing past the rate for women.

The only two private-sector industries to show a net increase in jobs from the start of the recession through May are health care and education—and women workers are highly concentrated in both.

Health care logged a net gain of about 542,000 jobs from December 2007 through May, and private education showed a net gain of about 102,000 jobs in that period.

Eighty-one percent of health-care workers are women, and 61% of workers in private education are women, Koropeckyj said. Also, government has shown a net job gain of 259,000 in that period, and 57% of government workers are women.

Workplace Salaries: At Last, Women on Top

In all of the white-collar, professional couples that I know anymore, the women make significantly more than the men. In some cases, this has meant that the men have no use anymore, and have been jettisoned like so much excess ballast.

Wages may be low for women in a job like waitress, but that is not the only job that women do, now is it?

But hey, there's a war on women! The TV tells me that all day long, so it must be true.

It's a made up issue.

'

Bullshit. Who cares about the wage gap when we have the power sex gap?

Yeah, in a perfect world, we have equality. But a good looking bitch is worth hitting on. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.... /sarc xxx!

Oh yeah, men have been rendered pretty superfluous anymore.

Women may have a generation or two to gloat, as they are elevated to the house slave position, and then, they too will be rendered obsolete.

Humanity is building a future where we will not be needed, in fact, human beings will be a liability.

Fail, the future is.

But, it's because we buy into the left/right, men/women, black/white, etc...

The TV, the media, the rhetoric, the....

In the same speech Obama talked about female wages on average being lower AND the need for mothers' need to be able to take off work for her kids. Someone that is a video editor could make an effective video about it.

Hmmm,

A large percentage of folks who voted to put this clown in office were women..

Now the clown is making noises that make women feel better.

Go figure.

Maybe if Employers didnt demand full time slavery from both parents...

Nope, a half way decent looking woman with a little personality can pull down big money working as a waitress or bartender. I made way better tips than the guys behind the bar and didn't work nearly as hard. It's not for everybody but I loved my job.

That's what equality is all about.

Remove 30% or more of the population (male or female) as stay at home moms/dads and it would reduce the workforce and then there would be more competition for employees.

The worst of it all is when they say "when women succeed, society succeeds also". When people on the left believe in that nonsense, it no wonder they believe we can solve societies problems by just concentrating on women's issues.

Just about everything about this so called war on women is a made up issue, except for the vaginal probes republican led legislative bodies keep proposing.

So if it's trending that means the bait worked. The whole discussion he created on the subject is ridiculous especially when he, himself, was trying to act as if we should have equality while trying to tug heart strings with his importance of women to the family schtick. Divide and conquer. I saw several Bill Clintonisms in the speech including a cutesy lip bite. He is trying to draw his female base back in. When your numbers are looking dismal with women go to a master of manipulation with females to brush up on your technique.

Its bs like others have said.

If you compare women and men in the same industries/careers and jobs instead of a general average then the supposed wage gap is nonexistant. In fact in many careers they sometimes favor women. Reason being when comparing the wages in total many women tend to major in college and pursue careers in fields that dont pay much. Social work, education, psychology, english etc etc. While men are in engineering, computer science etc etc. Which pay much more. But if you compare a woman engineer with a man engineer or a woman psychologist with a man psychologist the pay gap is almost non existent.

What further screws the data is many women have children and drop out of the workforce for some time, losing valuable experience that their male counterparts have. When they decide to come back (if they do) obviously they are at a temporary disadvantage and the wages reflect this.

This is an issue devised to divide people and provide the impetus for bigger government control in the economy and our lives. It brings with it the women vote so Obama pushes heavily.

I can vouch for this. I worked as a waiter and my tips were shit compared to the women working there. (all of who were good looking) Further at the places I worked at, I had to bring the food out clean the dishes do the miscellaneous physical and grunt work while the waitresses (at least at the places I worked at) stuck to simply taking the orders and checking on their tables. Their busboys or other male waiters did most of the work. Its common practice yet we are paid the same wage rate (below minimum) and the guys make less in tips. I still made a lot but it was a clear case of a wage gap between men and women in favor of women.

Ive heard its even worse for male bartenders vs female bartenders.
