Making Mexico Great Again: Ford backs out of $1b plant expansion in Ohio to offshore to MX

They work harder than UAW workers.

They also pay less for...just about everything. They may or may not have good drinking water or functioning indoor plumbing. Environmental regulations? Ain't got to worry about that shit in shithole countries. Only Americans got to worry about destroying the earth. Level the playing field and Mexicans would have to charge more for labor. That's why they pour through a porous border.

Some unions are more equal than others? Maybe the pipeline workers union didn't "donate" to the correct people.

Who are pipefitters, oilfield workers and welders, mostly?

Men, generally white men.

Gruff, burly, salt of the earth men.

That is not a constituency the Marxists want.

Flower Arrangers Local 134?

That's more like it.

Now that there is no pro-business leadership, companies are dusting off their exit plans.

Its pretty simple, we're either attracting capital or we aren't.

You don't get it both ways. If you don't want the Mexicans here, then companies will send the work to Mexico.

Why?

The best made, best selling cars in US history are both Japanese brands, wholly built here: the Honda Accord, mostly in Ohio and the Toyota Camry, mostly in Kentucky.

Honda and Toyota both produce engines, transmissions, drive trains and electronics here as well, of world class quality and exported to their production facilities all around the world.

Millions of good paying middle class jobs result from this work.

There is no reason for Ford to back out of a deal they already thought was a good one.

Unless they are reading the writing on the wall as the new regime in DC directs government moves to ban the new sale and manufacture of ALL ICE vehicles.

Ah, deplorables. Teachers unions are their favorite.

Cars are dead. Americans don't like cars anymore. They like crappy SUVS and pickups. It's cheaper to build those in Mexico. That is the bottom line, Ford got a better deal in Mexico. The UAW shot themselves in the foot yet again.

I do prefer Japanese cars, not SUVS personally.

The UAW shot themselves in the foot yet again.

UAW made a political choice. It doesn't matter that some members get screwed. They TAKE from the bottom while GETTING from the top. They're an extension of the Democrat party. They'll tell members how hard they fought to save the company. But, notice, there wasn't a strike and walk out at every other plant over it. Last strike was in Jan. 2020. Against GM. Do they only strike under Trump?
